I could use a confirmation on this too. Mine look kind of part way between PL and RL. My problem was when I planted I labeled them BB with out thinking. I all so have a home grown one that I call big bob--labeled BB too. I think we are OK, but will some one confirm this?

Those in the pics to me look very much like RL. I have my first PL seedlings growing this year and the first leaf is completely smooth-edged. All the RL seedlings I'm growing (over 30 of them) had first leaves that looked very similar to yours.

Well, I was going to refer you the to FAQ page, but Sooner beat me to it.

I think it is a little early to tell for sure, but to me those have the makings of potato leaf, give them a few days. As the line in the FAQ article says "Potato Leaf (often abbreviated PL) These leaves usually have no or few interruptions of the leaf edge. Sometimes there are a few large lobes or notches, but most of the time the leaf edge is smooth. Newly germinated PL seedlings sometimes don't show their PL nature until they are a few inches tall."

Bets

While all comments are appreciated, including "read the book", what would be nice is that if some one with a growing bloody butcher would take a good look at theirs. Mine has the outer leaf as what Cleo describes as "oven glove", then the rest of the leaves on that branch are smooth. I think Bets has it. Cleo, I bet yours comes out OK and looks just like mine.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say it's PL. But Bets is also very correct that it is too soon to tell. ;)

The leaf is still too small, will change greatly as it develops, and first true leaf is often somewhat different in appearance from the later leaves.

I am growing Bloody Butcher's too but most are well past this stage. I'll check later to see if a photos of any of them will help.

I've had many regular leaf vines show the first sets of leaves to look just like that. Early Girl and Mozark come to mind immediately.

Too soon to tell. You will know when the second or third sets of leaves grow out a ways.

Here is a photo of my Bloody Butcher taken about 10 minutes ago. It has "honkin" big potato leaves and was the first plant to flower this year. Buckbee New 50 Day, and Dona are also flowering now.

I had a similar experience with BB (maybe) last yr. Appeared RL to me, but I guess I am no expert. They were the first to ripen, and good production throughout, survived several 100 degree days, and was producing until frost. Taste was good enough to make me use the rest of the pack this year.

Makes me feel a little better that this wasn't necessarily due to me buying on the cheap!

I believe RL is dominant, and while a PL plant could possibly go RL, the opposite never happens (RL going PL) - I think Carolyn opined on this, can't remember if it was on this site or possibly on the SSE forum.
