preventative spraying

I understand the importance of spraying with Daconil (chlorothalonil) as a preventive for fungus diseases. What I'd like to know is what the difference is between daconil & copper soap?

One year I thought I had early blight, so I started a daconil program because of info I'd picked up here on GW. Another season it looked like black spot or speck, so I went with the copper soap, again from reading threads here, while still spraying with daconil every 7-10 days.

I want to know if I need to start using both products from the start after planting out, or will one take care of all my maintenance needs?

Thanks for any replies.
