Baileys Marvel-a possible bloom...
Comments (6)Thanks Ashley!. I'm hoping for best case- A long lived Mango tree for the bay area, not needing covering for normal winters. And If I plant it in ground-anti gopher cage wiring for sure. This is my second largest Mango I've ever grown outdoors-at over 6'. Lost the first one to 07's freeze. Baileys I beleive, would have made it. I think B.M. would laugh at 29-30f. Almost-lol....See MoreBaileys Mango-whats the story morning glory?
Comments (3)Well,so far April in the SF bay area has been very cool and rainy-Baileys Marvel or B.M.-ehem- hasnt dropped a leaf all winter, including a pair of near 32f nights in December. It would be cruel to have a thriving Mango here that doesnt fruit....See MoreNorthern Cal Bailey's Mango update..and proto fruit pics
Comments (3)Its potted. Just a tall variety that refuses to branch horizontal. I tried last year tip pruning..nada. It sent out more vertical shoots. Right now its in a great spot for warm, but the clay soil needs to be amended big time-for a mango- or a raised bed to add winter soil warmth and drainage...this is where that Florida and soucal/Arizona sandy soil really has a huge advantage. It seems to have set heavily-I'm used to that one in a hundred fruit set that Avocado's have here, but of course the grow into huge tree's with more than enough fruit. If I can get two good growth flushs..I should get fruit. Also M.D.,this is as early as they come for the bay area..it was forming flower buds in Jan. If it does what my Manila did..ripe fruit by the end of June-Sept. Let's just see......See MoreFinal results of Baileys Marvel first norcal fruiting..
Comments (4)Thanks Mango dog( I picture you having a good old tan bulldog guarding a pile of hardgrown Mango's in your yard-lol). BM,is not something I can tell bay areans is going to be the best investment...but,it IS fastest -height- growing, makes a decent trunk fast also. What I'm not sure of is how resistant to root rot in winter,my biggest Mango growing worry, is. In pots, that never rears up ..in ground is a big difference....See Moredghays
