Elephant ear bulbs seem to take a long time to sprout. I have several bulbs started in pots this year and still no sprouts. I've read that it can take a month or so. Very temp. dependant.

Periodically I've gently pulled a few of the bulbs to see if anything is happening. Each time I notice new root growth but no sprouts.

One thing for certain once they start its not long before you have quite a plant on your hands!

I also have a question about Elephant Ears. I bought the bulb in early April and a few days later I had a fall and broke a couple of bones. After surgery and a stint in a physical rehab facility, I came home to find that my husband had gone ahead and planted the EE in a pot outside. It looked dead and my neighbors though I should toss it, but I went ahead and peeled off some of the outer (stalks?), and it looks like in the middle there is something still alive. Hubby lifted it out of the pot and there are white roots so it is still doing something. Half of the plant is above the soil and the roots below. I hope we are doing this correctly. Hubby did not save the planting instructions and I doubt if he even read them. Any advice is very appreciated!
