40's? Yeah...rambutan would never tolerate that. I've read where they can rapidly deline when exposed to a certain temp for several days. This temp is much higher than you would expect. I cannot find the article but will check at home. Mine are doing well so far. The seedling flushed out quickly while the air-layered plant is much slower. Most likely due to it starting it's flush late in the season while our light and temps are low. I'm keeping the greenhouse quite warm. As long as there is progress, I'm happy.

Hi, I was enjoying a persimmon tree because of its beautiful leaves and unusual fruits but as the fruits developed, I had visitors. Found out that rats in the suburbs love fruit, too. Oh, and possums. We put out traps and caught plenty of each. The tree is gone. I didn't like the rustling noises that came from across the yard as I weeded. Our yard is tiny, however. The city advised us that the rats, though seldom seen any other time, live under decks. The neighbors all keep the alley pretty clean so it is not like rubbish in stacked up five feet tall, either. Yuk. A dog would take care of the problem, I am sure.

Thank you, you really do make me feel better after being so frazzled all day. I know I worry too much, but right now I'm so peeved with h (not dh right now!) for making these plans. I think I'm happy with the idea of the PP bus, as long as she makes it on. She will also do this for the reverse direction as it will let her out right at the airport. Her sister will pick her up at the station in Providence and drop her off there on the way home. Now I can worry about their day in NYC where they will see "Wicked". You can bet I didn't make those plans!

Emmy, sorry to see that your lychee is going through this ... I think it might have been traumatized through the shipping and all and then upon arriving it has to acclimatize to your weather there. 60's and 70's though should be quite a pleasant temperature for it. I think the plant might have some disease before it came to you and that's why all the spraying--wondering what they sprayed on it. I think you were doing the right thing to trim it down. With all the dead leaves or unhealthy parts all gone, it will rejuvenate the plant and give it a chance to grow again. I had to trim down my emperor lychee drastically when it dried up. It was my fault--I did not remember to give it an irrigation when I left for my trip last Summer. After the trim, the new growth slowly emerged and now at a height of 2.5 ft, it's even trying to send out some blooms I think. I'll post a picture of it when I get a chance to so later. So, hang in there and give it some time to get around. You're right to go slow with the ferts. They are overly sensitive and less is always more for lychees. Also, I don't know if the pot has a dish drainer at the bottom. If so, removing it may be helpful for it to dry up quicker after watering. I do hope to see it flourish again for you.
