mtps: i really do have puppies to give away!

Seriously. My mom's neighbor took in a stray, and she gave birth to puppies about six weeks ago. The mom is a shepard mix---looks rather like a small Border Collie or English Shepard, black with tan markings and a shepard's crook in her tail. No one knows who the father is, but the pups look much like their mom. Two are black and tan, one is all black, and two are white with black spots. We have, I think, three males and two females.

I'm guessing the mom weighs about 30 pounds, and I doubt the pups will be any bigger. They're friendly, and starting to eat soft food.

PLEASE, if you want a dog, e-mail me and let me bring you a puppy!!!

Just so everyone knows...
HHSP does allow dogs at the park but we have a longstanding rule about no critters at the swap. We can't afford to turn the MTPS into Westminster nor can we afford the liability of someone being bitten.

On the other hand...
how can I say no to a good home for some little puppies? I may be a jerk but I'm not THAT big of a jerk. Let's find those little fellers a home guys!

Jeff, I SWEAR I'll only bring 'em if someone wants 'em, and I'll cage them. But these little guys REALLY need homes, and their momma really needs spaying. This is her second litter since she was dropped here, and the people who've taken her in have three small kids and not much money. I don't have much money either, or I'd take the momma-dog myself. They've named her 'Beauty', which is very apt---she really IS a beauty. The pups are lovely, too, and could make a lot of kids very happy.

I live in Los Angeles and would drive down to your area if you still have any available. I have four night bloomers and I recently bought 12 clippings and can't wait for them to grow. Hi Jroot. I have to admit that my brugs were not up to par this summer, combination of the weather, my being away a lot, and neglecting the fertilizing. They are still very healthy, growing and green, just not blooming the way they should. Although one noid white has been spectacular, I think because of the potting soil and the humunguous pot it is in. And my peach candida is about to (finally) put out a flush of about 25 blooms. My Peaches and Cream has actually grown about 5inches this year and put out a few more little branches too. LOL...that darn plant just doesn't want to grow for me!!! I still have 7 little ones that I started from seed this spring that are growing nicely, and actually do need to be repotted very soon! I have to grow them in pots, I've pretty much decided. My soil here is just so sandy and rocky, that the brugs just don't thrive. I tried growing a few in ground again this year, and they just look so straggly, same as last year. There is only so much compost that my household produces, and only so much that I want to spend money on, so it is always a toss up between the vegetable garden and the perennial/annual gardens. Usually the vegetable garden wins! The cuttings you sent me are doing well, although no blooms this year. Four large healthy double oranges, and the double white are growing nicely.

I would guess goldfinches are 'helping'with this. It's really amusing watching them clinging to a stem while feasting on the seedheads, with the plant gyrating from their efforts. Have had no takers. I'm pulling out all the plants that have grown near my chaste tree. Want it to have all the room it needs - love my chaste tree. Aliris, I know exactly what you mean because I have witnessed subpar/unused venting before. The yuck doesn't just vanish but goes to the closest surface it can cling to. That said, grease will go to the overhead vent if available (and turned on) and/or it will cling to the inside of the underside of the vent that will have to be cleaned manually along with the vent screen). Just because you have a vent, there isn't a free ride from not having to clean. I realize that most of the vent screens pop out and can be thrown in the DW. I question the area on the underside of the vent and how often that needs to be cleaned too. A good vent will help tremendously though with containment. Most everyone considers a backsplash behind a range necessary so the grease and splatters do go other places besides through the vent. As expensive (and gorgeous) as they can be, vents aren't a free ride for cleaning, just more containment. Something that continues to surprise me is when I say I'm considering downdraft, it's as if I say I'm not providing any ventilation. I've had downdraft before and though it may not be as good as an overhead, it does provide some help. I had a downdraft in our previous home and no one said anything about smells when we went to sell. The house was described as "turn key ready". I'm figuring having to clean the window behind the range more often then the other windows. Since I don't do much besides brown, I'm not anticipating a grease or steam particle large enough to attach itself 6' off the ground (9' ceilings). Perhaps we have a physics person who can determine the weight of a grease particle vs the velocity it's coming out of. I'm not trying to be a PITA but it does really come down to the remote possibility of it being able to travel that far. Now all that said today, I was mocking up how it might feel to work with 12' of windows in front of me and frankly it felt uncomfortable. I felt like I was on display. I asked my DH and a friend and both of them were fine with it. I don't know if it's something I'd have to get used to or it would always feel uncomfortable. The strangest part is we have 12' of window in the great room (where I did one test) and I've never felt it till today. Bottom line as you can read, I haven't decided on all windows or 2 windows and a vent.

Aw Jeff, God bless you for bending the rules for these little guys, God bless the people who took in Momma dog and are giving her a good home, and God bless msbatt for trying to find the puppies a good home as well. :)

I may or may not make it to the swap, and I am at my quota for doggies anyway. LOL! But I agree that Momma needs to be spayed - as soon as possible. Would the family be willing to do this - is it just a matter of money?

As the biggest dog in this pack, I had them under control in no time. Nasty little buggers. Freakin' hairy furba....Oh who am I kidding. They're adorable.
