mtps nazi can't logon to GW

Jeff hasn't been able to logon to GW for quite some time. He is working 14-16+ hours a day and is extremely tired. I hope that all of you will bear with him, and show up at the plant swap on Oct 21 and show him your support. He is going thru a real hard time right now.

Do you realize that it is just 2 weeks from Sat???

NEWBIES WELCOME, as well as oldies, too. We are expecting to have a swap like the "old" ones...so come prepared to enjoy yourself. The swap WILL be in the campground, and first come, get first choice of spots.

Anyone wanting to camp that weekend, please let me know as we have canoers camping that weekend, too. Remember no pets, please.

We'll be there!! You, Jim and Jeff have our support --do you need anything right now ?? If so email me. Please reserve me a camping spot for both Friday and Saturday nights. I hope it won't be too cool,lol.

Speaking of which, "native plants" is a humongous category. Unless everybody's up for a multi-day seminar, it might be wise to narrow it down to a subset like trees, or shrubs, or grasses, or vines, or perennials, or spring ephemerals, or ferns, or [fill in the blank]. I can yammer on about any of 'em, so maybe you folks can guide me toward what you'd most like to hear about. Note that we could combine trees and shrubs into a category called "woody plants" and so forth. Or we could lood at the topic from a cultural standpoint, so I'd talk about something like "native plants for dry shade" for example. These are just top-of-the-head suggestions -- don't anybody feel limited to what I've listed. I'm just looking for a focus for the talk to make it more useful and practical for you guys. I've transplanted over 1400 baby azaleas in the last week. :) Marty

Hi. My name is Amanda and I'm a garden-a-holic. LOL. Seriously though, I only began gardening this year and already have plans for probably the next two or three years. I live in Chattanooga in what used to be my in-laws' house. When we moved in, there were already some hostas, two crepe myrtles, several azaleas, forsythias, two peonies, and a few other things. Well, I am working towards ridding myself of the forsythia. They are lovely, don't get me wrong, but I find them entirely too evasive. And to me, it is simply too much work to keep them trimmed back to a manageable size for something that blooms for only a week or two. I can happily say that I've added much more than taken away. I have planted cannas, daylilies, roses, bearded irises, and clematis. I definitely have plans for more roses and daylilies and cannas - just not sure where I will place everything. I am currently trying my hand at rooting some rose cuttings. I have Seven Sisters, Mr. Lincoln, and Climbing Blaze all struck. It is hard to not check for roots, as I am not known for my patience, but I have managed to leave them alone for the short time they have been in their pots. Finally, my husband and I are anxiously awaiting the birth of our second son. My due date is August 25th, but it could honestly be any day now. Our first son is 7-1/2 years old, so this is almost like having a first all over again. Although we're certainly out of practice, we're looking forward to experiencing all the 'firsts' all over again.

HHSP is only 2:45 from Jackson but it was 2:00 to Jan & Jim's. HHSP is only 4:00 from Memphis as opposed to the 3:15 to Jan & Jim's. Even though this is the Middle Tennessee Plant Swap I've still tried to make it as convenient as possible for everyone in TN regardless of where you are coming from. We're actually 45 miles closer to the geographical center of Tennessee than we were. I realized from the jump that it was going to be an additional 45 minutes for the folks from West TN but rather than snaking around Hwy's 45, 100, 64, 99... and going through all those small towns, twisty/curvy roads and speed changes now 50% of the trip from Jackson is on I-40 and 65% of the trip from Memphis is on I-40 so the drive itself should actually be much easier. Henry Horton State Park is 30 minutes closer for those from Chattanooga and an hour and a half closer to Nashville and Knoxville. The folks in East TN have been making the 4Â½ to 5 hour trip twice a year for eight years now and those of us from Nashville have been driving 2 Â½ hours when we are only 30 miles from the geographical center of TN. I'm sorry if an additional 45 minutes is a deal-breaker but if you show up I guarantee you'll be happy you did and won't hesitate to come back for every swap. I think that everyone from West TN will agree that the additional 45 minutes is negligible when compared to actually missing a MTPS! If you don't come then you'll be kicking yourself afterwards!!! Part of the attraction of holding the swap at HHSP are their cabins, the Park Inn and campgrounds. Their location and scenery are fantastic. The ease of getting there is wonderful. They also have a restaurant, 18-hole golf course, trap and skeet range, Olympic-sized pool, volleyball, basketball, several playgrounds for small children, Conference Facilities, biking, fishing, hiking, sports ball fields, picnic shelters and the Duck River... it is just a wonderful park with a ton of stuff that you can to do there! Canoe and horse rentals are also available nearby. A lot of our regulars enjoy making a weekend trip out of the MTPS and HHSP affords them a wide variety of activities to choose from in a very family-friendly atmosphere.

Fall MTPS Date Bama week! Oct. 21st. If I can make the ultimate sacrifice then so can everybody else. Hohenwald has their October Fest the weekend of the 14th, UT's only open date in October, and Jan says that the place shuts down and the streets are full of yard sales or something. Anyway, "The Third Saturday In October" will be our fall swap date. Do you know how much this hurts me? I'd rather take a written beating over the spring swap every day from now til then than miss getting to see UT beating Bama!!! Oh well, I'm a dedicated Swap Nazi I reckon. Hey Jan --

Speaking of your no pet policy -- I have a foster puppy who is too young to leave all day (she's only 3 months old). Is there any chance of bringing her, crated, in my van? She could remain crated except for brief leashed pee breaks, with full pooper-scooping. If I can't bring her I'll respect your wishes, of course -- but I'll have to figure out what to do with her while I'm gone. Please let me know, thanks!

Amazin, agaiinst my better judgment, you can bring the puppy AS LONG AS IT STAYS IN YOUR VAN except for potty breaks..with total cleanup after it.

We had 2 people bit by a dog over Memorial weekend, and we have had to be very careful, now. Plus dogs and swaps just plain don't mix.

I do need someone to volunteer to do the registrations. I think we will dispense with the door prizes this time since everything is in such an uproar.

We also will need to make sure that everyone remembers to unload as quickly as possible and then move your vehicles out into the parking lot at the edge of the field that Jim has mowed. Remember that we have to leave the circle by the river clear for the vans and canoe trailers to travel.

Everyone remember to label ALL of your plants clearly...so people will know what they have once they get home.

Do we have any master gardeners coming to the swap? If you are, will you dientify yourself to me, please.

More when I think of it.

I'm a certified MG in Knox County. Although certified plant addict is a more accurate description! LOL!

If I get there early enough I'll be happy to help out with anything that needs doing. But since it's a 5 hour drive for me, I'm not sure exactly when I'll arrive!
