Red cedar or compost near termite colony?
Comments (2)I live in Texas where it's not a question of if you get termites, but when you'll get them ;-) I use shredded cypress on advice of the pest control company. He said to use cypress, cedar or stone and avoid hardwood mulches near the house. Cypress fits the budget and I have been trying to use shredded fall leaves too, but I feel bad about not using all of the leaves in the compost heap. Pam...See MoreAnyone near Franklin, Indiana?

Comments (6)There are numerous soil providers in the vicinity. The City of Tacoma itself provides TAGRO soil products comprised of yard waste and biosolids and are available bagged or in bulk by pick up or delivery. Cedar Grove composting is located in nearby Maple Valley and provides a certified organic compost to various parts of the Puget Sound area, again available bagged or in bulk. There is also H&B Topsoil on Portland Avenue and G&L Bark and Supply. I would avoid 100% compost for the raised beds - too rich and will shrink significantly in volume. What is ideal is a soil mix that includes both a mineral soil and organic matter in appropriate concentrations. Look for something called 3-way mix or garden planting mix - most bulk soil suppliers will offer something like this. Cedar Grove's Vegetable Garden mix is about ideal for your purposes. Some suppliers require a minimum delivery amount that may exceed what you need or can use. You can either share a delivery with neighbors or if access to a pick up, haul your own. Here is a link that might be useful: Cedar Grove veggie mix...See MoreWhere can I get flat rocks near Franklin?
Comments (4)Sometimes I go to construction sites. They often have rocks that would be serviceable. A coworker told me of an article 'Ms Cheap' in the Tennessean had written of a company that had flat pond rocks really cheap. I would give anything to know the name of the company. I need some rocks myself. It may be worth emailing her. I will do that, and if I am able to get the information, I will let you know. Peggy...See Morereneecd
