Gosh Lesa, I should know that.......... LOL! These were just a few to eat fresh. My local place actually had CALIFORNIA tomatoes (I'm in Oregon) for sale. I was NOT happy! I asked about local ones and the owner told me there were just a few from their greenhouse (that's what you see in the photo). they still taste like hothouse toms..... :+( They did provide "color" in my salad. I would think prices are going to vary by area, but I always call ahead and see what quantities they have and the price. If I'm looking for large quantities, I'll have them reserved. Most of the farms are happy to quote a price on the phone! Deanna

Thats really exciting, i'm glad you had a great day. Bummer about having to wait to get let in. Winter markets are always iffy for me. One of my markets is a year round Wed. 2-7 which i've been going to for 4 years straight. I've only taken a few days off when the weather was so bad that it's just silly to go. If market day coincides with a nice clear day we usually have a great turn out (like last week, one of my best of the year). Other times, not so good. By keeping an eye on the weather predictions you can usually harvest accordingly. Even if your market is inside (lucky!) the turn out will still vary by weather, holidays, etc. All in all, I love the winter market. People are cooking more than they do in summer and seem willing to try things they usually wouldn't (celeriac or parsnips for instance). There is much less competition amongst growers and many of the things I bring are less perishable. If you have enough produce to go through the new years i'd think you should try it. Next year you can plant more for winter harvest. As far as the lettuce goes,,,,people sure are funny sometimes, huh?

Claglsu- I couldn't agree with you more about the media. For goodness sake "shut up already". I am very fortunate to be in a decent market right now. However, everytime I sit down and flip on the news that is all they harp on. Can they not find something else to hound for a few months? I am also very lucky to be in a market where only 32 homes are on the market and 27 of them are less than 1/2 acre, two are one more than an acre than me with no shop and then me. I have the land, the shop 30X50, and a remodeled home. I am priced below the ones with more land and NO shop. So surely sooner or later someone will figure that out. We have been on the market since June 21...so I am whining wayyyyyy to early in the game. Wish you the best of luck..it will sell....it will sell...Does that chant sound familar! HA!

I think this can vary a bit depending upon your area. Our most popular listing month is April. In my town much of the "calendar" is dependent upon the university. Spring break is over by then. The people that work at the university or moving in are ready to buy at that time. It does seem to me though, that my best open houses are always in February. Personally I recommend my clients list by mid February to take advantage of the spring/summer market.
