It's funny you should post just now because I just got a e mail from BlueStone Perennials that they are sending out my order. As soon as I get the package from them, I will mail the clematis out to Scotiegirl.
The list doesn't show who was sending to me and I have forgotten. Do you have it listed somewhere?

hmm. i guess theres no way to edit original postings (or there is and im just not seeing the way). anyway, ill repost the photos in this post. so apparently there are at least three types of bushes on the rental property's front and sides. ÃÂ there is this (boxwood): ÃÂ then theres this second type. it has nasty thorns that i forgot all about. berberis?: ÃÂ and then i saw that the ones on the side of the house are probably different from the other two. those guys were trimmed last year by about 1/3rd and i waited for them to recover but they never really did: ÃÂ lastly, this isnt a bush but it grew right next to one. i didnt plant it. it just popped up. what is this? ÃÂ sues comment "and they are bad shrubs, ...ie invasive non native ones" had me thinking that maybe i dont need to replace the bushes with exactly the same shrubs? was she talking about the possible berberis? im so grateful, by the way, for all this help. i feel encouraged!

I don't believe in new years resolutions at all because I think that, on the whole, they are kind of punitive and self defeating. I do like your resolutions and certainly I've been thinking the same thing. Not that I need more joy or laughter, exactly. My children are still young enough that all our troubles are little ones and we have more joy and laughter every day than ever. But I certainly live with a lot of worry, a lot of anxiety, as a result of my overall political and ecological concerns. I'd like to work on taking each day as it comes, and not worrying so much about long term issues. I think the best way to do that, for me, is to make a short list of things I can do locally, now, that I think will effect things long term and just buckle down and do them and stop worrying about the future. I read a book on this topic a few years ago, when my daughter was going through a gloomy phase, on "raising an optimistic child." The thing I learned from that book is that the difference between optimists and pessimists is that pessimists are, basically, people with a pretty realistic view of the situation (that would be me) while optimists have an unrealistic view of the situation that enables them to deal with it better and to live happier lives. Studies of the two personalities show optimists tend to isolate problems/relationships with people and not let them overwhelm the situation. what I mean is that optimists tend to say things to themselves like "I'm having a bad day" instead of "I'm a worthless human being." Or, "That didn't work so well" instead of "Why can't I do X..." That enables them to break projects and problems down into smaller, managable pieces and work on those pieces while pessimists tend to give up. I've seen that over and over again in my two daughters and I see it in myself all the time. My mother says that worry is like a muscle, you have to keep using it all the time. That's a nice little joke but I think that joy and taking life less seriously are also like muscles, you have to work on achieving those states and not letting other states of imagination (worry, grief, annoyance with yourself, the future) take over. I too decided this was the year to "get it together". I've let it slide far too long :( When I had my second son almost 6 years ago, life seemed to turn upside down. He had a double hernia operation at 4 months old so not sure if it contributed but he was extremely miserable for the first 4 months of life and he grew into a toddler with a very difficult personality (he's SO much better now). My personality wasn't able to cope very well with it. At some point during the difficult toddler years, we finished our basement. Everything that was down there had to come upstairs very quickly. Some of them boxes that hadn't been opened since we moved here several years prior. I'm sure I fell into some kind of depression. What I learned from Hoarders is that I think we do develop a sort of "clutter blindness". It's how we can survive living with stuff everywhere. I'm certainly not a level "5" or anything but I had stuff piled up in places and I was able to just live around it (like it didn't exsist). I also came to realize I hadn't thrown anything away in my many years. I still had stuff from when I was a teenager. I used to work in the beauty business and had SO much stuff I had acquired for free that wasn't being used. We started a couple years ago with a huge garage sale (sold $1,000). I had another one last spring (sold $500) but I still had stuff everywhere in certain spots. I'm keeping only certain things from my kids for the future. Who even knows if they'll need them? I kept a few special books and some special toys (like Playmobil) and that's it. I've stored them properly away and we'll see what happens with them. We save artwork for a year and then we go through it and pick only a special few pieces which I then store in special boxes I created for them. That's been the best decision ever! It's so much better doing these projects with help. An outside eye that can help you make decisions and move forward. We tackled my lower landing which had become a catch all for stuff and my basement laundry room. My laundry room was new as part of our basement refinish and it's very large. It has a huge table in the middle on castors (ala Martha Stewart) and the kids and I can do crafts here, I wrap gifts here and fold laundry. It too had "caught" stuff and wasn't being utilized as I had intended. Anywho ... two full days of purging and cleaning ... one car load of stuff taken away to charity ... and they both look wonderful! I still have a few items in the laundry room that have significant value so I'm taking them to consignment this week and I have some laundry to work through. When we built the room, I had it wired for a wall mount tv so I'm finally going to get that set up. I'm excited about the possibilities now! I lie in bed at night thinking of what the next project will be. I have hope that finally this house will get in order. I think I may take your advice and hire a cleaning lady to keep things clean while I focus on getting things in order. Even if I just do it for this year, I think it would help a lot. I'm excited for my kids. I want them to grow up in organization and know how to do it for themselves when the time comes. I really think for some (like me) it's a skill you need to learn. It doesn't come naturally. I'll keep checking in to see how you're doing as I keep forging forward myself. My next project is at my mom's house. We are tackling her kitchen. She's already been out and bought some Oxo containers for her pantry and some other handy organizing pieces. We're going to whip her kitchen into shape! Best of luck! I received my order from Bluestone and I am sad to say that the clematis they sent were in dismal shape. This is the first time that I have been disappointed in something I received from them. I have them in water, sitting on my shady window sill and they are perking up a little. I will give them a day or two more to recoop and then will mail you yours. Hopefully, they will bounce back. I plan to mail on Thursday or Friday. Thanks Karen

Your plant is on it's way. Del conf 03052200000131544262. The clematis was looking pretty good when I put it in the mail so hopefully it will travel well. I bought myself one just like it and it was pretty root bound. I advise that you replant is ASAP. I think it will do just fine then. Hope you enjoy your plant in your zoo garden!

Hi Karen, I'll be on the look out for it. Can't wait to add it to our garden. We got 2 other clematis to put on either side of that one called little duckling. They are all going to look great on the trio of shutters along the back.
I ordered my first order this year with bluestone. I haven't received mine yet. Have you been happy with your orders from them? I always get nervous ordering plants through a catalog for the first time. I have heard others say they are great.

I do like Bluestone. I order something (a lot of things actually) every year. The plants are small but that is why they are cheaper and most do really well. I think I get the same survival rate as plants from other places. The clematis was the first order I have had that I was disappointed in and wouldn't you know it, it was one that I was going to give to someone else. But a few days on the window sill seemed to restore it to health. I bought the duckling clematis this year also and am interested to see what it will look like. I thought of your zoo garden when I saw it. Send some of that rain our way will you?

Hi Karen, Just wanted to let you know we received the clematis today. Looks just fine. I put it in a larger pot as it was very root bound. I bet that's all it was. I have never seen so many strong roots jammed in such a tiny pot..lol. The roots where amazing, so I am positive it will be fine. I can't wait to get my bluestone order. Still raining here. I wished it your way. Thanks again for the plant. Will have to send you some pics of it in bloom with the other two we got. Enjoy the week~Heather

Well Rain Rain Rain :)) Reallly Needed it & everything growing so well I guess they say its going to be here till weds may 17th . I try to go poke a plant in the grow in between the rain :)) My ponds are flooding have been watching to see if my fish are swimming away or not.

I'm sorry I didn't let someone know sooner. My brother had taken the box when it arrived and potted up the plants at his house for her, and he just said they were from someone in GA, and honestly, when she was in ICU, I didn't have time to go online when I got home.

Thank you scouttiegirl, nice little plants you sent. I will enjoy them. Uptheresa I emailed you... will be getting it shortly. I had all my tags fade out over the winter! darn it and the irises are now in bloom so I can postivily id the them. I even sprong for the expensive id metal tags (can't believe how much they cost- but it will be worth it if the name stays...)
