I just checked out the Lily Lady. She must be getting the same as most of the other retailers in the US. I saw these bulbs on the shelves. So I guess, she must be selling the same quality bulbs. If you don't try, you will never know. Your credit card gives you buyer protection. The other site looks good with the Zombie. But I just was Zombie on ebay as well. Now that we bought it with Maria, all these bulbs that we really wanted just keep on popping up on the web cheaper. :o) This is life. You have to take shipping into consideration though.

Edible poppy seeds ARE from the opium poppy, papaver somniferum. They have also been grown for the flowers for centuries and I am sure they are handed down as viable seeds in many places. I have also heard that they have naturalized in some parts of the Pacific Northwest. That said: It is also true that the poppy seeds sold to the baking and grocery industries have been treated by heat or irradiated to prevent them from sprouting. Additionally, if you are required to take drug test for your job, you will want to be careful eating poppy seed cakes, bagels, etc. They can cause you to test positive for opiates!

I've spent quite a bit of time researching this, but the game does constantly change. AFAIK, unless you are growing cotton, soy, corn, or wheat, there probably aren't any GMO seeds of your plants. They wouldn't be sold anonymously because you would have to sign contracts to use them. However, I'm not interested in patronizing Monsanto in any way, and would absolutely make sure any company I would consider patronizing isn't a subsidiary of theirs. There is nothing I know about this company or their goals that I want to support. However - the next layer. Monsanto is a business and their purpose is to make a profit. If public pressure causes their current ventures to fail to meet their financial projections, they will focus their efforts elsewhere. Hopefully they will direct their vast resources and efforts toward more healthy and sustainable concepts. It is within anyone's powers to let Monsanto and your legislators know how you feel. They're not mind readers. Public pressure can be effective when employed. The examples of changes made because of this pressure are too long to list here. So don't just complain if you're unhappy about this. Do something to let your sentiments be known to the proper channels.

Hi riceke, thanks for the response. I have never grown tomatoes from seed (on purpose anyway). I was lurking in the greenhouse forum since my greenhouse is getting close to being put into use and saw this wonderful thread complete with photos on someone's success in growing Better Boys from seed and then training them as vines along a suspended cattle panel in their greenhouse which looks very similar to mine in approximate size, shape, etc...It looked like a real space-saving technique. I have always done well with Better Boys in the garden and just wanted to get some additional takes on growing them from seed, preferably from folks in my neck of the woods. I have also been conversing with that thread's original poster too and have alot of info to work with. I didn't even know hobby gardeners could grow named market hybrids from seed until I saw her post. Now I'm a little more knowledgeable about F1 and F2 seed generations. Still would love to hear about anyone else's experiences growing Better Boys from F1 (first generation) seed. Specifically tips on germination rates, success and care of young seedlings. I've grown melons, cukes and some flowers from seed so I'm not a total seed growing noob but I am when it comes to starting toms from seed. Danielle
