Others here will know better than I about the quality of their trees, but there is a seller named Freedom Tree Farms whose main location is in Pelham TN. They claim to be the largest nursery east of MS River and they supply Lowes, Home Depot, Kroger, and Wal-Mart. You can google them to find their online site, though I know for certain that they have a much, much wider variety than what is listed on their web site. Their trees are all potted and about 5-6 foot tall- you can decide for yourself if that is better or worse than small bare-root trees that many here prefer. But here is the best part for you: They operate a satellite retail business which carries a pretty full selection of fruit trees and berry plants (more than shown on their web site) at the Nashville Farmers market every single weekend. Their trees are $15 and berries are $12 and both are large and healthy looking potted plants. So you now have an opportunity to buy almost any kind of fruit tree or berry right there in Nashville, hope that helps. Daves Garden rates them great, but only has 2 reviews so you have to take it with a grain of salt. I've bought trees from them and been very pleased, but I'm new to fruit trees and lack experience needed to be a good judge. Good luck. I'm amazed! I thought I had them all (laugh!). I'm surprised no one mentioned Raintree Nursery, they are in Washington State and Online. I've been working on an edible landscape and they have a huge fun selection of excellent quality. Prices are pretty close to average. The horticulture staff is excellent. The customer service is very personal (can you tell I like them?)lol... I do occasionally put up with Gurney because of their bargains, especially if you wait until the last minute - really cheap stuff , good if you're landscaping five acres of wilderness. If you call the regular phone number you can get a real person. If you e-mail customer service you can lock into a real person - but there doesn't seem to be any hort people on staff and their 800 number is a phone bank in India. Fruit trees (and I have an orchard full), I have ordered from Raintree and Starks. Starks has great quality and great hort staff. For flowers, I pretty much stick to bulbs because I need for them to naturalize... I just received my first order from White Flower Farm and the quality looks good. Bluestone is expensive but their quality is outstanding. Thanks for all the leads!

You are invited to our Plant and Seed Swap at the Ecovillage Training Center on The Farm in Summertown, TN June 17th 2006 from 1-3 pm Bring your favorite, unusual, useful, or extra plants and seeds and trade with your neighbors. We are working to increase the diversity and food production of our educational nonprofit site. We are especially looking for perennial food plants including but not limited to Jerusalem Artichoke, small fruit or nut trees, bushes, or vines and what ever you find is producing well for you in the area. We also need herbs including but not limited to creeping thyme, borage, and yarrow and perennial flowers that will attract beneficial insects to our organic garden and add beauty to the area. Donations of plants would be greatly appreciated but are not necessary to attend. We have to trade anti-mosquito plants, spiderwort, iris, oregano, mint, many varieties of bamboo and more. Directions to The Farm From North: Nashville to Columbia: Take I-65 South. About 30 miles from Nashville, take Exit 53 at the Saturn Parkway. At the end of Saturn Parkway, follow US Route 31 South to Columbia. About 9 miles south at a major intersection, turn right (south) onto US Route 43. Columbia to The Farm: Take Highway 43 South for 22 miles to the intersection with Highway 20 (at Hughes' Grocery), which is marked for Summertown. Turn right onto Highway 20; you are now in Summertown. Check your odometer. At 1.5 miles you will bear right at the Summertown Market. *Two miles further on Highway 20, immediately after passing under some powerlines, take a sharp right onto Drakes Lane at the county line. Drive 1.1 miles, turn right on Walker Ln. where Drakes Lane takes a sharp left, and 0.4 miles later you will see the white gate and brick Gatehouse of The Farm. *If the Gatehouse is open, stop to check in. *Once past the gate take a right on Schoolhouse road and the school will be on your left. From South: To Lawrenceburg, Tennessee: Take the Natchez Trace or I-65 to US Route 64; Lawrenceburg is 17 miles east of the Trace, 27 miles west of I-65, at the intersection of Highways 64 and 43. Lawrenceburg to The Farm: From Lawrenceburg take US Route 43 North. After approximately 12 miles, take a left on Highway 240 at Johnson's One Stop, towards Summertown. About 2 miles later, take another left at the Confederate Monument, onto Highway 20. Follow Highway 20 into Summertown; bear right at the Summertown Market.
