CRW, metal cage question

So far I have been a happy camper with my CRW cages.

Every year I get quite bit of disease at the end f season. Mostly* anthracnose and late blight.

Even last year when I used "sterile" potting soil in Self Watering 'Tainers.

I _thought_ I gave each plant lots of space.

I pruned the bottom leave 1-1.5' up the plant.

Can the pathogens from disease survive well on CRW cages?

Pacific Northwest winters. Overcast, 35-45 F, and wet all winter.

If so how can I make them useful again? cleaning 40 cages seems a not easy task. I don't have a burner.

*Self, ie not professionally, diagnosed.
