new to raised bed gardening.. could use some advice

Hi,

I hope you folks can help me. I live in Phoenix, Az and am new at gardening anything. I want to do a raised bed vegetable garden and I don't have a clue. The plot that seems best to me is plenty sunny and there is just dirt and rock there now. My questions are as follows:

I thought cinderblocks would be good to use as footing. I bought spinach, garden beans, peppers, leaf lettuce and tomatoes.

What size garden should it, including depth. Also, what is the layer ing of mulch, compost and regular gardening soil. Do you need some sort of sheath to put down over the ground?

I don't have compost set up yet but I'll start that now for the spring garden.

We have a water drip system too. Any other advice would be most helpful.

I am excited and a little anxious about getting it started.

Thank you,

Ashley
