trellising sweet meat winter squash

I posted this in the vegetable forum as well, but I figured that with the trellising emphasis of SFG, some insight might be found here.

I'm trellising sweet meat winter squash to save space. I just picked up the vines to put them on the trellis and I noticed roots forming at the nodes. I'm sure that not getting these roots in the ground will not be good for the squash. Any idea how not good it might be? thanks
