They may be less "plant-specific" than ultra-violet color-specific. And this makes a kind of sense. For all flowers that are not self-pollinated, there are pollinators, and not all flowers have the same pollinators. It appears that flower-shapes and pollinator-capabilities developed in tandem in some cases, and sometimes a pollinator and a specific flower are made only for each other! Anyway, I've no doubt that some pollinators pollinate different kinds of flowers, not being so picky about the kind of flower as being lured by the ultraviolet invitation they see.

In the future, forget about purchasing lady beetles. If you minimize pesticide use at your place, they're already there. Further, their collection is thought to be one of the various factors contributing to the decline of their population.
