This is my first year with sugar snap peas; I understand that they should be grown up a trellis. Mine are four to five feet tall now, here in zone 7. I planted them March 12 protected with plastic covered cages.

We've had lots of rain and cool weather, too. I've heard it's been the coolest spring here in 100 years.

I don't know about your zone, but here mine started to quit when the temps started getting into the 80's regularly.

I planted my first garden this year and put sugar snap up a trellis. They did wonderfully until it got hot this past couple weeks, over 90 every day, then they quit blooming. As far north as you are I would think you could still plant them. Good luck.

Don't despair, people with wilting peas! After pea season comes bean season--the squarefoot garden marches on! (Well, it really just sits there and grows, but you know what I mean....)

(Also, it might be time to drool over the idea of planting asparagus peas on that trellis...)

Another good trellis option for warm weather is the cucumber--they don't like it cool.

Actually I pulled up my peas the other day and planted Cucumber, LOL. Great minds think alike. : )

I'm in North Central Texas--gotta protect from winter ice, and still get the "canned heat" all summmer.

Yeah, no kidding. I'm originally from Idaho so I drive there every summer and it takes me almost half the trip just to get out of Texas. LOL

It's amazing that you have to worry about winter ice. What is that??? LOL Well, I guess to give SE Texas credit, it does get below 32 once in awhile. : )
