Gorgeous photos! I love Thomas Affleck, the scene with the purple loosestrife (I don't care if it's a nuisance!!), and the lilies especially! Are they Orienpets (I love OTs). I was thinking of getting me a Crown Princess Margareta, but I thought it would be more peachy/apricot? Thanks for making my night!! :0) Phyl

Oh these are beautiful photos Celeste! Your clay pot people are hilarious! Did you make them? How cute. And I love that pink lily! Do you know the name of it? I knew I should've ordered LEONARDO!!

Yep, I agree - no fuss, no muss. Half of mine died to the ground over the winter, and as soon as they woke up they were off running - covered in blooms. Had a BBQ the 4th of July, and out of all my plants (I'm a perennial nut), the Endless Summers garnered the most comments.

Big maple leaves drop off starting mid summer

Timing suggests it's a response to seasonal drought. If not dying back or appearing diseased in some other way then that might be the extent of it. Mulching and watering would be expected to improve leaf retention. If you can display good photos here it might be possible to make additional observations. While it should be apparent there is a problem, due to the shriveling that occurs there is some kind of blight that is appearing in recent years on the native bigleaf maple here. Leaves on sections of the uppermost top suddenly and dramatically go yellow and then brown, bent downward. Adjacent branches still have green leaves at the same time. There is also a decline syndrome showing up wherein the leaves of bigleaf maples become smaller over time, after which the whole tree may die. Samples taken from specimens in the Seattle arboretum showed their roots to be infested with pathogenic water molds. But you have said your tree looks normal expect for it being bare. It is curious that it takes so long to shed, and that it is still dropping leaves in November. Might it be a sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua)?

Our Chinese New Year meal plans - lots of images

Thanks everyone! We've just returned from our Chinatown excursion. It was a long but fun day. We ate a lot of Chinese baked buns: cocktail buns, pineapple buns, BBQ pork buns, and hotdog buns! Little man and I joked about our fun buns lunch! LOL We went to the Chinese Cultural Center but things were not quite set up. Seemed like they were not going to be ready until this weekend. So we went to visit a few Chinese grocery stores. OMG, it was like a zoo everywhere. People were shopping like crazy. No surprise though, two more days of shopping before the big day. We bought a pack of Chinese New Year treat called Cows Ears, some deep fried cookies, for the occasion. But we were out for so long that we ended up eating the whole bag before making it home! LOL Image of Cows Ears: Then I bought these gorgeous Chinese kumquat (like mini oranges). They are small but sweet in a strange way. Hard to explain. I did save some for the Tray of Togetherness. Image of kumquats: We are going to the zoo all day tomorrow so I will make the shrimp dumplings tonight. Will start the chicken congee in the slow cooker before we leave tomorrow morning. By the time we get home we will just heat up the shrimp dumplings and eat them with the chicken congee. Should be another fun day for us. By the way, hubby and little man just ate two of the Lo Mai Gai and they LOVED it. So it's worth the time making them. :-) Al

Thanks Celeste for showing such colorful roses in the Mt similar to where I live.
You enabled me and inspired me. I was Afraid to plant a blue Hydrangea. That is just what I was looking for. (ENDLESS SUMMER HYDRANGEA) It is the best!!!

I love the clay pot people too.

Celeste, I am in awe of the beauty of your land and scenery. I love New England. Your rose pics are so beautiful, it was like a walk through a summer garden. Did I see a bloom of a blue delphinium with the pink lily? Thanks for sharing it with us. Nice way to start off my new year.

OH WOW!!! The roses and lilies are gorgeous,but I love your flower pot people and the tree face,and that scenery is beautiful.And to think I gave a pile of little flower pots away.Made Mr and Mrs Santa Claus out of some of them.What you can't do with a good imagination. Gorgeous.

Celeste I haven't had much of an opportunity to visit this site this last month, thank goodness I got here tonight to see those gorgeous pics. I loved them all.

I have spring fever big time right now and am just itching to get out there and start my new garden in the spring, your pics have inspired me with some new ideas, thanks so much.
