They are still blooming (mostly oranges)

I can't believe I still have some blooms to take pictures of. Last year I had not a single one at this time, and now I still have lots of buds. Even the recent freeze didn't get them...

Masha, I envy you about the bounty of rose blooms that you still have!

The camellia is very lovely! Mine are still in the bud stage, but they will open eventually and I am looking very much forward to that!

Beautiful pics Masha! Isn't it crazy? I had some gorgeous blooms I started to take pics of a couple days ago, but my dang camera battery went dead. (one of the ones I didn't get was BROCELIANDE!) The next day it started dumping torrential rains for two days. Waaah!! I meant to get out and try to get pics today, but got sidetracked. Maybe they might still be ok tomorrow. I can't believe how many roses are still trying to bloom even after the freeze we got last week. I love it!!

Your PAT AUSTIN is gorgeous! And I love the camellia. I oughta check on mine and see if any are trying to bloom yet. They usually bloom closer to Jan tho.

It is always fun to pick up where a crazy lady gardener left off! I suspect future owners of my house will refer to me as that :-) One thing you might be forgetting is that all plants are basically green most of the time, so stuff going together is really not that big an big issue. One exception is probably forsythia with pink flowering cherries, but then, I hate forsythia so I may not be seeing that correctly. But on the whole, in the type of project you have in mind, I would feel quite free to go with whatever plants you like. Another thing, a single forsythia can get pretty big so unless you like that garish yellow colour a lot, three of them might be overkill. One is permitted to throw plants in the compost even if they are still alive. Your kids will be safest if you simply teach them not to eat anything from your flower garden, although I have to admit that I have never been able to bring myself to grow monkshood, even though my kids knew the rule (my son could say Euphorbia when he could barely talk because he knew not to touch his face if he'd touched the euphorbias "dis a euphorbia?"). But the list of poisonous plants is astonishingly long and limiting, and if you also worry about what's poisonous to cats you can't grow anything at all, especially not lilies. Christine, Yes it's true that most Hosta move easily. Not Liberty and not Sagae. They like to stay put. The general rule is that you should plant the ones that will be Giant at maturity in the place you want them to stay before they get too big. Moving a mature Giant is a task that might take several strong people to accomplish, and still is not easily done. Otherwise people differ in their approach. Some plant using mature size as a guideline and use companion plants or annuals as "filler." Other people plant the small, medium and even large Hosta closer together and redesign the bed later on. Personally, I tend towards the former approach, but there have been times when I've placed plants in a spot where I know they will have to be moved in a year or two. Steve

Splendid pictures, Beth - as usual! I miss BILL WARRINER - what a lovely rose. I had it in a previous garden, but don't have it here yet. (And, considering my current state of crowding, won't be getting it!) Three of your roses were on my Watch List when they took awhile to get going - so glad they all three showed me what they can do. I think MISS BEHAVIN' is the sleeper of the floribundas. It is impossible for me to get the color right on my camera also, but what a fantastic bloomer - and, to think, I didn't think it would do much at first! I won BOULIE'S DREAM as a door prize last year and put it in too much shade. Now I have moved it and am waiting to see it recover. And, MILVA is amazing - but it sure took awhile for the plant to thrive. It is on fortuniana rootstock. I don't know if that is what made the difference or not. Anyway, here's to fall - and hope the blooming continues for weeks so we can see more of your wonderful collection!

Nancy, Etosha tends to rebloom here, but usually just one scape. And Kate, you almost feel bad about that you'd like them to finish. Alex and Debra, Marseilles Watercolor always re-blooms well, and usually early, which it did, but when it sent up the set of tall scapes, it didn't occur to me that even u the label said MW it cold actually be MW. I assumed it had to be Half Moon Key since MW has been much shorter every time...but I had cut off some of the tulip tree limbs and it is getting more sun, which may have helped. And that tree may go yet. Julia, it started April 24th and today I saw that Crazy Mr Jim has put up two scapes. Heavenly Angel Ice has scapes. It may well be September before it is finished. Lori, I need to move Jumpstart, I think. Thank you all for looking and commenting...and Brad, it really can go too long. kay

Christina, my camellias have a long bloom season. Some open the first blooms in November, and one not until February and that one blooms well into spring.

Beth, your pictures came out great in spite of the rain. No Broceliande though:-(. I am amazed at how many of your roses are still blooming.

They are all just Beautiful, you are sooo lucky to still have roses at this time of year. And I do love Orange roses so much and yours' are a real treat. Thats for sharing them with us.
