Okay, dash and seil. I have been working on red climber projects for a few years now in Michigan's upper peninsula. I have a rose that was labeled Blaze when I bought it and I became suspicious of whether it was Blaze or Blaze Improved. So I bought a plant labeled Blaze Improved from High Country Roses last spring. Is there a way to tell the difference between Blaze and Blaze Improved? Is the only difference the repeat blooming? I think both roses are still getting their roots under them but the first "Blaze" gave me a couple of flushes of blooms last year. I have tried to pair it with a Climbing Iceberg but up here, the Blaze outgrows the Iceberg. Climbing Iceberg always adds some suspense to the garden when I wonder whether it will survive the winter (with a rose cone filled with oak leaves and a mound of dirt). I am unaware of another white climber that would match up with a red Blaze. By the way, I have tried Dublin Bay twice here and it never survived the winter. Has anyone else been able to grow it this far north?

Not great fragrance but it should be hardy for you. I've never had any cane loss on mine over winter so you may get a little but otherwise it should do great!

Kalista a climbing rose can be grown sucessfully in a pot provided it is in one that is big enough. Stay away from peat based compost and plant it in top soil with added manure or John Innes with added manure

A rose would be gorgeous on that trellis! I have Blaze and it is a once bloomer basically. I get one big flush in the spring that lasts a couple of weeks and then maybe one or two lone blooms here and there the rest of the season. Blaze Improved is supposed to be a repeat bloomer so it should bloom in flushes the whole season. They're both rated to zone 6 and mine winters quite well so it should for you too. For climbers you don't want to cut them way back if you don't have to. Only prune off dead wood and clean up the plant for shape in the spring.
