My new twist on Mels mix this year

My Mels mix I mixed exactly as Mel said last year got ruined by my lovely cats.

I didnt cover my box in the off season, and it became a 5 month litter box.

I took all the mix and tossed it in my flower area as I didnt want to plant any food items in cat poo/pee.

This year, I kinda made my own mix.

I found this stuff called

"Gardner and Bloom Harvest supreme" Kinda pricey at $8.99 for a 2 qft bag, but it seems like really good stuff

Includes:

Fir bark, forest humus, rice hulls, 15% chicken manure, worm castings, bat guano, kelp meal, oyster shell, lime (pH adjuster),

and mycorrhizae.

The guy at the nursery said the Mycorrhizae are little microbes, or bacteria (I dont really remember) that help break down the compost to useable nutrition for you Veggis.

I used 8 qft of that, about 3/4qft of additional worm castins, a bag of Farmers compost(A blend of chicken, steer and turkey manuer) and only about 2.5qft of Vermeculite, and about the same amount of Peat.

I just planted yesterday, but man, my Brian's Mix :) sure feels good, and it definetley smells rich.

We'll have to wait and see how it goes.

Anybody familiar with what the heck Mycorrhizae are??

I also made my own Earthbox this year. We'll call it a Brian's Box.

Cant wait to see how it performs in comparisson to the real thing.

I was going to order another, but the lady at Earthbox was really rude and they said it would take 3 WEEKS TO ARRIVE
