Sharifa Asma and Angel Face are especially luscious. I wish the latter didn't fry in my garden; I really love its color. Thanks for posting these lovely photos.

Thank you all very much! Jerome- Larmarque has always been very top favorite rose. Like Audrey said it has such nice clean blooms and the smell is a wonderful sweet citrus scent. I also just love the green apple color of the leaves.Very well behaved climber. Krista- Duchess de Brabant has grown very quickly for me. Always covered in blooms. Denise- Thank you for the complement...I too just love that birdfeeder, got it at our Flowertown Festival 2 years ago but I wish I spent more and got the larger birdhouse instead as now that vendor hasn't been there since...got to remember to go with your gut and just buy it when you see it. Audrey- I have Ducher too but I got lucky as she was sent by accident so they told me to keep her and I love her. Very clean, nice rounded shape, and a citrus scent similar to Lamarque. I love white roses but they are hard to get full bush shots as the white seems no matter the time of day is bright and it just doesn't show up very well. Here is mine... Hey Annie, Thank you for the compliments, just got done looking are your roses and I would have to say the same! I got the carnations at Lowes I think a few years ago. I love them! They are my birthday flower and I was so excited to find them as I didn't think they would do well down here but then again those places tend to buy things that don't do well for the area. Turns out they have done wonderfully. I do remember you telling me about your daughter living in Columbia and your someday visit down here which I am still looking forward to! :O) Yes, it is too bad she doesn't live closer as I would love to help her out. Mabe when you do end up coming to visit her we can all meet up at the zoo. Then you could come down to visit Charleston. I have a membership to Magnolia Garden and Plantation and I could show you around there and have a picnic there perhaps, I love it there. Maybe you could bring your daughter too and we could have a nice time. July and August are hot and humid though so be prepared. So far it really hasn't been too bad heat wise. We have actually had a nice long cool spring with a few hot days lately but not too bad. Looking forward to your visit! Congratulations grandma! ~Meghan

Hit with spider mites from Chamblee Rose last year - some thoughts

There's also a bit of unintended irony in qwert's report. If you go back to the first published Phytopathology report of Witches broom of roses/ Rose rosette by Staplin, Allington and Viehmeyer, they were dealing with Rose Rosette and they were trying to keep the vector mites on sick roses in isolation chambers. As well they tried to keep vector mites that hadn't fed on infected roses alive and isolated. Their problem? Every time they thought they had a colony of vector Eriophyid mites established, spider mites would move in and obliterate the vector mites. The spider mites were, for them, THE predator that removed eriophyids. For quert's rose to have come down with RRD, there are tens of thousands of infected wild roses upwind of that rose. There's no way of telling where it came from, but because of the spider mites' tendency to eat the vector mites, it's just a shame that spider mites are omnivores rather than natures best acaricide.

Sweet Michelia, Your roses are all so pretty. I'm considering Sharifa Asma and I'm wondering how she has done for you? I've heard she's slow to get going. Also, do you have a recommendation of where to buy her?

I bought Sharifa Asma at Armstrong Nursery about 4 yrs ago, it was in a pot until this last December when I Moved into a house and planted all my potted roses in the ground, she did good for me in the pot and is still thriving, she even likes the HOT weather here in Chino, CA, I love her. she's always blooming. She has always done good. But like all roses do better as they get older.
