WOW!!! I have been waiting all summer for your pictures. Your landscaping is stunning. What is the rose in the bottom of the last picture? I love your gardening plaque and your wood fencing in areas. Does that one path go down to a bench? I'm trying to find a pretty swing with an arbor thats not to awfully expensive. Thanks for sharing your beautiful flowers. Both sets were great. Judy

Everything is simply gorgeous, you can really see all the time and effort you put into making it look thus. I'm so glad you made the time to post. I hope you have a chance to do some individual pics of some of your roses, these are all so very beautiful Pauline. Eden looks terrific climbing over your gate arch there, so welcoming:) Thanks for a glimpse into your gardens.

Your yard is so pretty. Everything is looking extra good. I'm just curious about some of your other flowers. It looks like there are some iris, maybe pink wax begonias, some petunias, and some white alyssum. I can't make out in this set of pictures what the blue flowers are in the inset beds by the bird bath. Are they petunias? What blue flowers are you using besides the hydrangeas that bring that color to the garden? I notice several different types.

Forgive me, I am a crazed woman. My response to this thread and to Bustopher in particular was put in my other thread on this subject (First Set). Pauline, How high is your fence? Does it work pretty good keeping the deer out? I have an awful time with deer who love to eat my roses. This year they picked on my Disneyland the most and I have only seen about 5 blooms out of it this whole year. boo hoo!! My husband wanted to put up a decorative fence to have a stopping point from my gardens to the woods. I thought the fence had to be pretty high or they would just leap right over it. Again your gardens are simply beautiful!!! Judy

Judy. I think the fence measures approx 7' due to the fact that it mainly sits on a raised bed. That fence is not too long and because it was dividing two areas of the garden, we needed it to be quite decorative. But our main deer fence, you cannot see. This goes through all the evergreen trees and is approx 7 or 8 feet also. Sorry I cannot remember the size, but I have included a link below.
We had it installed about four years ago and I have to say, it changed my life. We are right on a deer path with population getting larger and larger. By the time we installed the fence, our rose devistation was heart breaking, despite all my egg spraying every five days. I was ready to give up. It got so bad that many roses actually died because of the constant chewing and general weekening. So with the deer fence, we moved surviving roses to the back, and are developing this now, and adding more and more and hopefully MORE roses. :)

Anyhow, deer are now welcome in the front and all the rest of the garden. They live here. But our front yard, is not as nice any more. They are eating many things they never ate before, including geraniums. So we have to rethink the whole thing and come up with a different kind of garden. I have substituted dahlias for the geraniums and I do not like them nearly as much. But I have to come up with something that works, because I will not chase the deer away anymore, we love them now, heehee! I am introducing a lot more peonies which are lovely. Hence I do not even think I have taken a picture of our front this year -just ain't the same.

Thank you so much Pauline! I will look into it. Its so hard to put up anything the way my yard is layed out and we have woods completely around us. The deer even wander up in our yard in the middle of the day with us out there and we look silly standing there trying to scare them away and all they do is twitch their tail and keep on eating. My luck they will get trapped in on the side I am trying to protect since I can't completely enclose the area and devour the whole area. They sure are pretty but so darn irritating. Take care, Judy

My first thought was, "wow, someone in Canada still has that many flowers this time of year?" But, then again, I'm from Alberta and I suppose in your part of the country it's a lot more mild! :)

We did do the landscaping ourselves, from a piece of forest. We literally carved our property out from the bush, built over time, and landscaped even over a longer time from scratch against a lot of odds. We bought the property in 1978, cleared the land, sold our previous home and moved on to the property with small trailer, two teenagers, two springer spaniels and a cat. and moved into the unfinished house two years later. Bear in mind it was the beginning of the 80s when a huge recession had started. It then took us forever to complete the house. I was working, but no job for my husband. We of course overcame, things got better and we completed it many years later, although I still notice my tiny ironing room still does not have base boards, teehee!

Anyway, we are still having fun with the landscaping which keeps evolving. Now we are gardening in a deer free back garden. Heaven for the roses. (because we installed a deer fence around it) But a freerange deer front garden, which we declare belongs to them. We now have to drastically change our gardinging habits.

We still have a lot of roses blooming, though we are really into the dreaded fall gardening right now. Lifting our geraniums etc for winter storage, but the overall garden still looks good.
