Aloe forum?

I know there's a cacti and succulent forum on here, with gallery, but I think one devoted to Aloes would be welcomed by many. I only have a few myself but I hope to get more in the future and it would be great to have the necessary info, and pics to help with IDs, in one place. Unlike many of the plant types on here there is no other forum out there devoted to these intriguing and diverse plants.

So anyone else agree with me on this?

Have you inquired on the cacti and succulent forum if others there feel a need for a Aloe forum? You see, the suggestions forum seems to be a rather stale place to put ideas forward. Nothing much seems to come from postings here.

Hi Albert,yes i did post there too and got quite a discussion going there. Some say yea,others say nay. I posted here as i thought the mods read these and then get back to you. Oh well. I also think there's room for a Caudiciform plant forum too(fat plants)

The first is Aloe vera v. chinensis. (blooms orange) The 2nd (although that looks like more spots than usual) which is much larger, thicker leaves & yellow blooms, is Aloe vera/barbadensis. I believe it has been reclassified with the latter name, but most people are still calling it by the former (vera), so one or the other is listed as a synonym. Just my two cents, words are just words, we sometimes use different words or terms for the same thing, for example on our side of the pond we say take out, on the other side of the pond it's take away. In this instance the word 'proper' just meant more formally laid out to me, really didn't give it much thought. Trunk and boot mean the same thing as far as the car goes. There are of course other terms that mean totally different things, quite innocent on the other side of the pond not so much over here, no I'm not going there LOL. Take it from someone who has put her foot in it on more than one occasion, don't sweat it we're all here for the same thing, sharing knowledge, much needed help in my case and best of all 'Show and Tell' :). I recently puchased an Aloe like yours on clearance for $2 that had extensive root rot. After cutting off the rotten roots and placing it in new soil, I also have a leaf dying off just like yours appears to be doing. I can tell that it's beginning to root itself though because when I tug on it, I feel some resistance. I think it's trying to use up it's reserves while it's re-rooting. I don't think your Aloe is dying. Leaves die from old age from time to time too, but I don't think that's the case here. However, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Planto

Hi, I like Silverhill Seeds. For Aloe seeds I also like another place "FROM SEEDS TO ALOES FOR THE GARDEN." It too is in Africa, but I like it for three reasons: 1. The seeds are less expensive (as low as 50 cents a pack), and 2. The seeds had better germination for me, and 3. The Web site has great photos of aloes. I won't give up on Silverhill, but for aloes I'll go with the other place. I see the lady (from SEEDS TO ALOES FOR THE GARDEN) on the Yahoo Aloe Forum, she's quite knowledgeable. Seems the old Aloe talk forum has gone from bad to disgusting! Originally it was a general Aloe discussion site,then it became a site to discuss Aloe vera products and I stopped looking. I just did a search for it after over a year and its been over taken with porn! It needs removing!

Why not just discuss Aloes at the existing Cactus & Succulents Forum? We don't have specific forum for Aloes, Crassulas or Christman cacti (the succulents & cactus which seem to consistently generate the most questions)?
