Scant and Unequal Archives

I'm wondering why some forums are apparently allowed more archive space than others. For example, Cottage Gardening messages go back only as far as June '06 and consist of maybe 360 messages or so. Vegetable Gardening messages go back to March '06 and there are some 2000 of them. Why is there a difference?

Even the vegetable people don't have much of an archive. My gosh, March was just six months ago. I would think that all messages should be archived. The older posts are a valuable resource, and GardenWeb is meant to be a resource, right?

I would be very happy if someone could answer this for me, if only to tell me that I been a real bumbler and have overlooked a very obvious way to accesss these old (but not very old) files.
