mgood4u, I'm certain if both memberships were canceled that you would not be able to sign up with an old member name of mgood4u. Why not just move your correct email addy to your member name dawnbrn, and then put a blurb on your mgood4u member page telling of your new member name, and maybe even link to it. Your trade page for mgood4u looks like it may have had some bad HTML or something mess it up. It would involve having a 3rd (junk) email addy to put on the mgood4u account to free up your good email addy. (you could choose the option to show the email addy to no one...thus no email link on that page. You could then change the addy on your dawnbrn account to your correct email addy. Clear as mud? subk3, I have never joined a local garden group either, but for different, reasons. I just don't think I am a 'joiner' and having been gardening organically for 30+ years, rose growing was the farthest thing from the direction I was going. I have to agree that finding ways to interest people in growing roses who have become convinced that it is too difficult would be a major change to make and a timely one. I think you have to consider that everyone loves roses. Try to find someone who doesn't and I think you would be looking a long time. (g) It is growing roses that is intimidating. I don't think it is anyone's fault that roses are both difficult to grow and/or thought of as difficult to grow. It has been a process that has been developing without anyone actually noticing. When people first began using chemicals on roses, I'm pretty sure they didn't consider that a problem. So the breeders concentrated on other things, like developing fragrance, etc. People are now rethinking it and trying to change that and that can only be seen as a good thing. Unfortunately, for those who have grown to love HTs and many other gorgeous roses, roses that don't require chemicals, for the most part, have not caught up with the roses that do, in terms of beauty or fragrance. I'm a beginner rose grower. I haven't even grown a HT, so these are just my casual observations. But, especially those HT growers, would benefit more than they realize by supporting rose growers that are trying to make those changes. Because the more they receive support, the faster they can find roses that are just as beautiful and fragrant that don't require chemicals. Is there something a rose society could do to attract someone like me? Well, something that would interest me, would be a group that was organizing volunteer efforts. For instance, we have a new space in the Boston area called 'The Greenway' which are city gardens and I just managed to get there a few weeks ago and walk around a small portion of it. I found myself thinking of how much fun the volunteers that care for that space must have. Also, I'm always noticing areas around my town where appearances could be spruced up. Traffic islands, around highway exits and entrances, etc. Maybe a rose group could join forces with a native plants group or an organization like we have here, the New England Wildflower Society and have a fundraiser to fund community gardens. You could end up with demonstration gardens that included roses that people could ride by every day that they could see were easy to grow. So far all I ever see are knock outs used in public spaces in my area. The town square, the library, there's lots of places to choose. In Boston, recently, there was a group of volunteers who had taken on a project of lining the Boston Marathon route with daffodils for next spring's race. That drew a lot of people who don't usually garden to come out and volunteer. Something they all felt connected to and was making a big difference in their community. Hope that helps.. :-)

Hi Marcy, Mike & Solar Storm Marcy & Mike, your journals were posted in early August as stated. They were mailed from the UK. I have just checked the database & see that both your subscriptions are for "surface mail" and not Airmail. Surface Mail can take between six to eight weeks. If you would like to receive your Journals faster then please select Airmail when renewing. I can assure you that your journals have been sent & are on their way. Solar Storm, as I don't know your name I cannot check to see if you are surface or air mail. If surface then I guess it will be along soon. After all, Sansevierias being such slow groing plants, they do teach us to be patient. Anyhow, I'm sure you'll all be receiving your Journals soon. I use netscape.net (AOL) and comcast.net. When I compose in Comcast, type in a URL and send to my Netscape email it shows up as a clickable URL, for example - after typing http://www.ebay.com. However, when I type the same when using Netscape/AOL and sending it to my Comcast email it does not work. Check this. On the Comcast email, click Preferences, then Display. That gets two choices. The second one - Choose how to display email messages -- allows you to select Display HTML in body of email. See if that works.
