Jen, First of all, I should not be the one responding to you. You see there is no cold frost or so called winter season in Hawaii. Being that this is the first year that I've grown blueberries here in Hawaii, I can only wait and see if it blooms all year. I just picked some the other day. I waited this time after they turned blue to see if they ended up being sweeter and they were. My blueberries have been providing fruit ever since I bought them in August. I have all types. You make a good point about the possibility of other names. Trade names combined with sloppy writing on the part of some nurseries sometimes make identifying a plant's real name a little more difficult. Patents are filled by true cultivar names and not by trade names. 'Misty' and 'Sharpblue' are actual cultivar names. Neither of these plants were ever patented (contrary to the false claim by at least one source). 'Misty' and 'Sharpblue' may be propagated without any patent-infringement worries!

I fight this battle every year, and do pretty well until late winter. Rabbits love to eat young blueberry branches. of course, blueberries usually only produce on 1-3 year old wood, so you may get some fruit, but without some chicken wire or something around the plants, your harvests will always be severely limited.
