Snakes in compost- small, cute snakes

So I've been finding earthworm snakes in the compost pile. I've found them in other garden beds as well. Once I figured out what they were, I'm ok with them.

The question is- I'd like to relocate the snakes to the woods behind the compost pile when I find them. I prefer earthworms in the compost. I don't think the snake poo is quite as beneficial for my garden as earthworm poo. Although it is made from earthworms.

How far do you need to move a 6" snake so he doesn't find his way back?
