I drop down to the second, lower part. If they were all just listed once, alphabetically, by title that would suit me.

I use this mostly but occasionally I use this one. Should I want something that does not jump at me with one of these I would google for subject and domaine.

My Firefox pages are much more readable than my IE pages but that may be a personal settings artifact. If you change anything I would recommend testing both.

Josh, I forgot to mention at gardenweb I only use the long list, 'by title' I think its called.

I think I have used the by topic column once in 3 years and it didn't help. I use the by topic list.

I don't use the Subject Areas. I bookmark my favorite forums and go directly to either the Title list (too long) or Name of Plant list (shorter) for others.

I don't bookmark many forums because my Safari browser is set up so I can see a few bookmarks in the menu banner at the top.

I'd be fine with just the Title list if it was configured so I didn't have to scroll too far to get near the bottom (Perennials, Shrubs, Suggestions ...).

Looking again at the Forums page, I think the Subject Areas should be left for use by occasional visitors who need to know what's available on Garden Web.

For frequent users who want to get to a forum quickly, you need a comprehensive list that doesn't involve a lengthy scroll.

In my case I check "Building a Home", "New England Gardening" and "Soil, Compost and Mulch" every day, so these appear on my bookmarks menu along with the "Garden Webs Forum" page (and some non-GW sites).

If there's something interesting going on in a particular forum I'll keep a tab open for that forum. I avoid using the main Forums page because it's annoying to have to scroll down.

I seldom use them I have AOL and just put the forums I viit in my favoties and click on directly from there. It would be nice to have them listed alpha tho.

How about listing the Subject Areas in a column on the left side of the page? Then a visitor could open up the Gardening Forums, or Home Forums or whatever on the rest of the page with less scrolling down required. I've seen this work well on websites such as Plant Delights.

Not everyone knows about this forum. Maybe you could post the question aT THE TOP OF EVERY forum page like you did the notice about the delay and include a link to this forum.

Since you just set up a way to collapse the "What's New..." feature, how about doing the same thing for the Subject Areas?

I'd love to be able to collapse it and get it out of the way until I need it.
