Shade/Part Shade/Sun

I have an area in the rear of my house that needs some help. Right now it has 3 shrubs and one nearly dead black-eyed susan. The problem is that it's one of those places where (if you're looking straight at it) the back area is mostly shaded throughout the day, the middle of it is sun in the mornings and shade in the afternoon and the very front of it is sun all the time. I'll see if I can post a picture of my basil plants I have growing in a row there, you can tell the sun exposure by their relative growth (kinda funny).

Thoughts on what I can put in the rear, then middle, then front that will all get along and play nice?
