A couple clumps of variegated Iris and 3 clumps of a salvia or Veronica in your favorite blue or another nice purply blue would be Sea Lavender (limonium). Actually- lavender alone (3 or 4) would look really nice. I have several kinds of Intermedia and Angustifolia and frankly good old Hidcote is my favorite and most reliable. It's far easier to prune and even renovate and keep in a nice shape. The intermedias I have raised get big and eventually turn into ugly donuts and it is impossible to prune them enough to prevent it. Wow, that's a lot of plants! I don't have a list of what I'm growing in my little gardens -- sometimes it takes me a couple of weeks in the spring to realize that that weird looking weed in the corner is something I've had for years. I just assume that more plants than not will grow in this area! One of the more unusual plants I grow is agapanthus. Not a particularly hardy variety, this was simply a florists' plant my mother gave me four years ago. But it's come up reliably every year for the past three seasons in Central Ohio. It's planted against a south-facing brick wall with excellent drainage, and apparently doesn't realize it's not in zone 8+ anymore! One of my mother's more spectacular plants is a 15 year old calamondin orange that arrived as a little "get-well" houseplant. It spends the winter on the unheated glassed in back porch in Cincinnati, and now stands over 6' tall in the pot, and is nearly 4' around. It always has flowers and fruit on it, and we've picked 200 ripe fruits at one time.

subk3, locally, I use Cumberland Valley Nursery (CVN) and Vaughn nursery. I've only purchased plums from Vaughn, but was happy with them and the price was good. I've bought many trees from CVN. They mainly specialize in peach trees, but offer apples and others as well. They are listed as wholesale only, but they do sell retail, but at wholesale prices. You won't find cheaper trees anywhere. I've always driven to the nursery to pick up my trees, but they will ship. You'll need to call for prices, availability and ordering as they no longer have an online retail store. I've always spoken directly with Nick. They will also send a brochure. 931-668-4153 If you're looking for southern heirloom type apples, you may want to check out Century Farm Orchard out of NC and Cummins Nursery in NY. Both specialize in apples, but Century especially focuses on heirloom types. I haven't purchased from CFO, but their reviews have always been excellent. I've been happy with what I've gotten from Cummins. Both will be more expensive than CVN or Vaughn, but will offer a wider selection of apples. Most of my apples came from Burnt Ridge Nursery, though.
