Yeah I got pictures. So first let me introduce myself. My Parental given name is George Davis, my Earth given name is Christian Warlock (Three Nuns gave me that name) I'm an Artist, Photographer, Capricorn, Humanist, Computer Child and Plant person. It's that plant person aspect out there that I'm looking to talk to. PCK UP DAYlastics have made a world of difference in the way we create in our world. Plastics allow us to create in a bottle any type of enviroment we wish to store. Food grade plastic as found in any recycling can in ANY NEIBORHOOD IN AMERICA ON PICK UP DAY. These containers with alittle hole punching and restricting of the neck can be made into little water recycling centers. I call it The Dark Garden Method.

Now the Garden Pods as I call them are made from 2 & 3 Liter bottles. The rack will hold 48 Bean plants. The space between the legs will hold 32 plants in trays- 2trays to a side 8 plants per tray. It was my thought to use 32 corn in the floor space. It could be 48 tomato plants, 48 brussel sprouts what ever and that makes 80 plants. Now I can put 21 different beans on this rack at a cost of $2.98 from the local market. I've got them sprouting now. Now I'll have to worry about bean crossing. As for the corn I'm growing 100 stalks now in a 3'x6' area. I may use 2 liters of water on them a day, but only on a few in the front. The ones in the back haven't been watered in a month.

I'll take another picture to update their growth if anyone's interested?

How much of a leaf cover do you need for that? I don't really know. This is the first time I am planting in the front yard woods, after picking up sticks and limbs, trimming up some trees, pulling up tree seedlings, pulling up 'some' vines, and digging out lots and lots of May Apples, and raking aside all the leaf cover. Stringing the rows and doing the actual planting is the easiest part of the whole planting experience. I'd say the leaf cover is at least 6" or so. I kept watching the weatherunderground on the computer all day, hoping it would get warm. Even though it wasn't warm at 4 PM (was just 34 though it was sunny) I headed out to get a few planted. Surprisingly, I wasn't cold, the soil was wet, but not clumpy, my hands didn't get cold, and I managed to plant 15 little bags, 47 total bulbs. so all those from the front yard (city tree) went to the city for composting. How I wish I had trees that weren't all in the woods or at the edge of the woods. All the leaves at the edges of the yard are full of sticks and twigs. I used to sometimes go to friend's houses and do their leaves, just to get to bring them all home for the veggie garden. I've got this wonderful leaf shredder that reduces them 13 to 1, turning leaves into what I call brown gold. I think the little willow leaves should be fine. Last year I remember "discovering" that the open areas were frozen solid while those with some cover were not. I might be able to exploit that some year if I knew what to aim for. How deep? I wonder if you couldn't just cover an area with either clear plastic or black plastic to keep the warm in and the freezing cold out, thus lengthening the planting season so you could get in on the late sales, like from B and B's.

I don't have a picture, but imagine a letter 'E' with the three lines being the big wire racks from Lowes (about $75 each) and the two lines between them being whatever shelving units or mount wracks you want depending on your space. I am only using four of the fives shelves that come with the wire wrack. I suppose I could hang the fifth shelf at the end for hanging mounted plants. My units are in a converted bedroom with black-white reflective grow room plastic hung up all over the place (stapled to 1x2 wooden furring strips which are then hung from only two nails in the wall. You could also nail the furring strip cross piece onto wooden uprights and hold those to the legs of the wracks with cable/zip ties. White fabric would work instead of plastic and could be sprayed down to increase humidity in the room. I grow using hydroponics pots so there is a lot of water that must drain out when I water so I need to keep the pots up off the bottom of the trays. To do this I have 2 lengths/rails of 1" PVC held onto egg crate with cable/zip ties, to form a platform within each tray. The tube from each upper tray can go into the tray on the shelf below so you don't need to make extra long tubes for those. When not draining into a bucket you can simply loop the end of the tubes back into the trays I have flower boxes at the end of the top shelves so that my pendant plants (Dend. superbum, Chysis etc.) can loop over while the narrowness of the box holds the pots. The lip of the box is held to the shelf wire in back with a bent piece of hanger . The trays are simple to make. Note: the tube does not come up through the bottom, it comes out of the side. For several trays get a 20 ft roll of 1/2" clear tubing (plumbing section of Lowes or HD) because you will use 3-5 ft per tray. You need about 6 inches of tube glued inside the tray for strength. The tube lies on the bottom against an end wall with the tube coming straight out of the side NEXT TO the corner, not through the corner. I have it coming out at the end of a long side, glued against a short side. Fist: Use soap and water to get the oily finish off of the plastic before using the Goop. Second: Hold the tubing in a big pot of boiling water for a couple of minutes to get the bends out. Third: make the hole in the box using a 1/2" spade drill bit, or melt it through with a soldering iron, or be slow and careful with the tip of a utility knife. If the box chips don't worry, just Goop the hole/crack closed around the tube. Then: Cement the entire bottom of the tube in place and put a moderate weight on the tube to keep it in position for a couple of hours until the Goop sets (the lip of a can of soda lying on its side works). Use several coatings of Goop. After the first coating cover the whole tube plus an inch of tray on either side of the tube (for holding strength) and use a lot on the outside on the box and tube also. The goop will seem "set" a day after the last coating , but wait three for it to harden fully before moving the tray. Do all this in a well ventilated room. I get 2 to 3 trays out of one tube of Goop. The egg crate is easy to cut. Just take the back of a heavy knife or saw and whack the square you want to start at. When the row is started whack again and apply pressure. The row will give way like a zipper.

Hi and welcome to GardenWeb! Well, I only use artificial lighting for growing annuls (and a few perennials) from seeds each year. Once the weather's right, outside they go and the lights are no longer used. For that reason, I can't be of much help with the type of growing you'll be doing. I do have a light meter that I really like, it's a "DrMeter" - LX1330B. It measures in Lux or FC in selective ranges. As for as it's accuracy, I would think that it's fairly accurate but of course I really don't have anything to compare it to. The meter itself is protected by a removable plastic case and it comes in a nice storage case as well. It cost only $40 and for that money I think it would be hard to beat. Progress report! I moved furniture around again on my sketch and in reality. Using your suggestions - Thanks! I went fabric and cushion shopping - I didn't find exactly what I want. But I went ahead anyway. I covered new cushions and recovered old ones. Already an improvement in looks and comfort. I recovered the futon really poorly. But it looks neater. And I covered 6 pillows with the meander fabric. I didn't do the best with pattern placement on the pillows. I haven't bought any paint yet. I hate using oil paint inside in the winter but I think it is longer lasting than latex. Or maybe I will strip and refinish wood. But I am imagining a gray/blue or gray/green color. Also I visited my neighbor who webs chairs. She is in the middle of an order but will either consider rewebbing my chair or help me reweb in a few weeks. And she has the tape and supplies. And my mom will lend me a painting for my 'big' wall. I hope we can find an older one in a frame - when I was a child she made very geometric paintings. And most exciting of all - my cabinet maker teacher/friend/procrastinating trader called me about finishing my understairs drawers - which will completely change my kitchen area. Shades asked off forum to 'see' this area. The east wall of my kitchen... (again excuse the clutter) I think the corner cabinet can go over here if/when the I have drawers under the stairs. Which will have 3 36" wide x30" deep drawers and a small shelf above. Alright I am long-winded today. Note one of my favorite things is the shelf under the window. Just big enough for tea boxes and mason jars.

man, i love that idea. i will definatly steal that idea to grow some crops this fall. keep us posted on how everythings growing. i am amazed by your corn. i wanted to grow corn but i always said "i dont have room for 50-100 stalks of corn" looks like i was wrong.

inventive recycling + gardening = thats awesome.

Well the frame is made from 1" PVC pipe. The structure here also serves as a light closet during the winter. With 6 -4 foot lights and three plywood shelves. It will produce more than 900 seedling every two weeks. During the summer it's a plant stand. Nothing's glued so it can be taken completly apart over and over. Cost with lights about $90. Now the thing that makes it all possible is the pods. If your interested I'll sent you the plans for a bottle and a simple mix. Make as many as you wish. All I ask is that you refer to it as the Dark Garden Method. Just refer to The Dark Garden in your email header.

I'm really enjoying these pictures, but slight editorial question -- is there anyway you can make the pictures smaller, or the text wrap around? Each entree is three rimes wider than my computer screen.

Or is that something on my end?

look out folks, george has been busy spamming many forums with his 'garden pod'.

On the container forum he got his posts removed by the mods when he flat out refused to disclose how he was doing things, but instead informed us he would sell his method on ebay.

If you don't believe me, just ask him to explain in plain language how his method is done in a way that you can give it a try.

Better yet, ask him to show pictures of yields on his plants.

We asked him this in the container forum and he said that over the last 10 years he has used this method and accumulated many photos, but all photos (other than of a corn plant) showing yield mysteriously got deleted.

The guy is simply here to get you interested and will then only tell you how to do things if you pay him money.

Again, george, prove me wrong and provide details of your method in the forum in such a way others can give it a try.

This is the fourth forum I have invited you to tell us all how to do what you are doing and you have yet to do so - unless we pay you money.

Haahaahaaa again this just too funny. Please follow me. Report me for giving an "IDEA" away that would (in his words)revolutionize gardening. I'm sorry I have no such ambitions. I'm looking to help those who are disabled. Tell me folks is there a gardener in you that your body won't let out. Do you get winded easily, had a stroke or accident that left you unable to lift that pick, swing that hoe or even push a shovel. With the pod method there's none of the things that will keep you from gardening. There's no bending over, no heavy lifting and everything you buy from your favorite gardening center. There's nothing to buy from me.
Now to make it feel better I promise you and everyone in the whole wide world I wonÂt ask for anything. I wonÂt even ask for your opinion...but please email for the design. Begin a healing process in your own garden built with your own hands from begining to finish. I bet you that five mintues after you make your first one you'll smile at how easy it was. You too username 5 this offer is for the mentally ill too.

So give it away already. This is the fourth forum I have found you spamming with your garden pod nonsense and you have yet to explain to anyone how to do it. When asked in the container forum you said you wouldn't give the info away for free, but sell it on ebay and then you got modded and your posts removed.

If you really want to give your knowledge away, there is nothing stopping you. Go ahead and post the details for everyone.

Again, you won't do it and it doesn't take a genius to understand why.

Oh, how easy it would be for you to prove me wrong and shut me up.

um guys, i'll give it away. its 2l bottle with the tops chopped off, placed on somethign hot to curl the top plastic back down into the pot, and some holes burned into the bottom he is hanging them from a PVC structure. i doubt that you could grow most larger plants (tomatos, peppers, eggplant) to maturity using this method, but it could grow some mean herbs. the secret is revealed...
