More of my seedlings and some roses too....very very long

Hello all! Some of you requested to see some more of my seedlings well here are a few that I took some photos of and some other roses too.

This is Marilyn Monroe, which I just purchased this spring, its on its own roots, and finally got some decent blooms without the thrips spoiling them. I wanted this one for a long time.

This is Gemini X Betty Boop Seedling

This is Gemini X Bronze Star (have a few of these). The color changes on this one from one day to another. This is the first day.

And this is the next morning, It looks like a totally different rose.

JFK X OP- Don't think I will keep this one, vegatative center, going to wait for next bloom though to see if it too has the same center otherwise it is a nice rose.

Those are so nice. How do you decide which roses to combine? Oh, the possibilities!
Could you combine a large white HT such as Honor with a more fragrant white, such as an Austin or a Romantica? Seems like ewe all long for that perfect rose that would be disease resistant, long lasting, very fragrant and everblooming.

Your roses and seedlings are all lovely. That Marilyn Monroe is to die for but I hear she's too tender for my winters. Oh well, I'll just enjoy yours.

You got it, peachie. Since I just do crosses for fun, and only a handful at that, I like to do wild ones. Like something big with something tiny (Double Delight X Wild Plum) or something hot pink with something bright orange (Electron X Fragrant Cloud). You never know what you'll get, if anything, because the parentage of both sides comes into play a lot too. you could cross two white ones and get a red. You just never know and that's the fun of it.

Thanks for the comments and responses. Yes, I could add some other plants and the suggestions were good ones, but I'm still very content to not do anything. Maybe that notion will change with time, but so far the desire to do so hasn't hit me. rouge said: "Kevin, when you have time you could put in some variegated Polygonatum...." Actually, there is a planting of that on the other side of the azalea which you can't see in the photo. I divided and moved a bunch of that last fall and only kept a limited amount. I threw away buckets of that stuff, so it's going to be a few years before my patch is large enough to divide again. Dee - No, I'm not concerned about the carpenter ants. I had those years and years ago long before this garden was created and haven't had a problem since treating for them back then. As to the possible problems with the Podophyllum, I admit that will be an interesting situation to deal with. I did dig some a few years ago and found that it comes out of the ground very easily, with a garden fork. I don't think I'll try to dig it out however. What I'll probably do is just cut sections of it down early in the spring and keep at it if it re-sprouts. If a plant can't photosynthesize because the leaves and stems are gone, it will eventually die. I had that problem with wild, white violets at one point in time and that technique worked on them. There is a LOT of information left out in your description which is necessary to make any suggestions. How do they look "paltry"? Did the foliage on the plants begin to show diseases and fall early (summer)? I know the weather across much of Texas has been Hades on earth for the past few years and rain hasn't come in sufficient or even near normal quantities. Have you supplied enough water to supplement the lack of rainfall? Are the plants growing near walls, patios, concrete side walks or a drive way where they will receive a lot of reflected, radiated heat? Might you be able to photograph them to show the conditions in which they grow and what they look like? They could be severely water stressed. They could be severely heat stressed. They could have been accidentally exposed to chemicals like weed killers. You could have insect issues which are causing them to suffer to the point of looking awful. They could be suffering from disease issues which also could cause the problems. It's also possible someone has damaged them with a string trimmer while edging the garden. Gotcha, Mad gallica, on the shrubby thing. I don't want shrubby. The area is about a ten foot privacy wall between our driveway and our neighbor's property. There is only about two feet of clearance between the fence and the driveway, so shrubby definitely won't do it. At our old home I grew several of the David Austin roses with great success. I remember one of them, Abraham Darby--that is the type of graceful, arching aspect I am thinking of. Canes would get to be about 7-8 feet long, as I recall. I remember severely pruning it at the end of the season and then mounding some hay over it--i.e., no dramatic protection--and each year it bloomed just as beautifully. That is kind of what I am thinking of. I am also beginning to think that I am going to have to deal with mulch if I want to grow something really beautiful. Also--just for my own understanding: Climbers don't necessarily have to grow on old wood, correct? If I don't need to preserve the canes, then I could use any long-caned rose in that location, right? wow, you have some gorgeous seedlings.Great looking blooms on all of them,and I love Mariyln Monroe.I had a nice bloom on mine today,but didn't go take any pictures.Too hot out.My bushes looks pitiful right now.Burnt up with this heat.Most of the blooms are burnt up too after a couple hrs.I have a few bushes that looks ok and the hit sun ain't bothering them much,but the rest oof them are toast.Thanks for sharing your pretty roses.I just love them seedlings.

Wow! Love those seedlings! I wish I had your success in that area. The few seeds I've managed to harvest never even sprouted despite all my efforts & research here and online to achieve that.

Hi, I'm not a grower of roses, but a painter of them. I would like to commend you on these beautiful photographs, including sunlight. I wish that more people would realize that photographing them in sunlight adds another dimension to them, the blue reflecting from the sky back into the shadows, the glow from within the deepest parts of the rose, these are stunning. Thanks for using the beautiful light of the sun in your photos instead of waiting for it to go behind a cloud to take the pictures!

Oh Rambling Rose, I am in awe. The roses you have created are beautiful. It must be so thrilling for you when your first baby comes to bud, then to bloom. All pictures are very lovely. Congratulations, well done.

Wow. They are all incredible. I especially like your AR x GJ - how is the fragrance on that one? Gj is one of my favorite roses.

Thanks carla, moodyblue and robin,... the AT x GJ is very fragrant, its my best red so far, you cannot see from the photo but the petals have a nice velvety texture. I have some more pics of my seedlings that I will be posting soon.
