Collecting unripe zinnia seeds

halleone

My Benary's Giants were slow getting started this year because of the late/cold spring. Only a few of them have ripened seeds for me; I have been waiting patiently for more to be ready, but it has now turned cold and very rainy and I fear the seeds will rot or freeze before they are ready. Is there anything I can do to salvage these seeds? Would pulling the plants and leaving them in the shed to dry work?
