best time to transplant red oak seedling?
Comments (9)I start transplanting red oak when leaves turn red,the tree is dormant enough.I hope you are prepared for one heck of a tap root on that oak.I have transplanted some oaks that size in the past, but you can do alot of damage to the roots digging a tree that size. I would try to dig as much of the tap root as possible,if you have to cut the tap root use a sharp knife. Mulch and water after planting,be sure to water all fall, until you either it gets enough rain or the ground starts to freeze. You do not want ground to wet before it freezes, this could cause root damage....See MoreBest time to transplant Norway and Colordao Blue Spruces
Comments (4)COnifers are available pretty much year round here in Maryland. The conifers to be moved were all planted in October of 2002. I am willing to take the chance since I have had succeess with moving trees and plants in the fall. I know the importance of deep, slow watering so I will probably just do it since the landscape company is coming this fall to do some rearranging and adding new beds. I will keep you posted. Thanks!...See MoreBest Laid Plans-next best time to move
Comments (3)Meant to answer your personal email question but you do not have an email contact through GW!! You might want to change that if you do attempt email contacts :-) Previous answers are good - any time the tree is dormant and the ground workable (not frozen or overly saturated) is a fine time to move/transplant. In my area (actually same as the two above), JM's do not emerge from dormancy until well into March. I'd say you have several months still to accomplish your move :-))...See MoreBest time to transplant mature plants?
Comments (2)If you look up "overwintering" the same principles apply. I don't really consider peppers to have a dormant state like a tree, but, you could dig it up and pot it at any time. Though, while it's in a growing mood it would likely recover more quickly....See Moredrusilla
