Okay, maybe I am lucky. Or maybe work is just interfering with my gardening. Hmmmmmm. Maybe I should be complaining about that. It would be nice to take a sick day and stay home to plant, but I live a few blocks from work. They probably would frown. I must admit that my plants are looking wonderful. Some are a bit on the yellow side. I don't know if it's lack of sun or if the rain that has washed away all of the nutrients. I still am luckier than the farmers who can't get their crops in. We have had hail only once, but it was soft enough so there was no damage. Alot of my plants were planted in the mud. I'm going to hate mulching because in between all of the rows in the veggie garden are paths that are quite packed. The weeds like the rain as well. Oh well. Life is such. Shelley

Well we did get it again. Started really good on wed evening. then most of the day thrus. Lights out a few time, but came back on after a while. Only a little light drizzle fri in the a.m. I will never be so happy to see spring as this year. whats with all the blooming ice. What happened to snow, just plain ole snow. I can handle that far better. lol. I put some cosmos out. i'll see what happens. I got the funniest package in the mail today. My daughter sent me a whole case of banana moon pies, lol. She knows I like them so it was a late valentines day. I asked if she was trying to fatten me up, lol. I am going to start a few more things this weekend. providing we still have lights and no more ice. don't want to plant by flashlight. Thanks about the juice. I have been as well as eating a lot of veggies and drink water. Had a big pan of water on the stove most of the day today. seemed to help. Bonnie

Amy, Thanksgiving usually is in Texas, as it was last year, because all my sister's kids and grandkids live down there and have to try to visit two (or more) families on Thanksgiving, so we go down there instead of all of them coming up here. In our early years here, we hosted all the holidays here, but then when my nieces and nephews started having kids, it became more convenient for us to travel down there instead of all of them traveling up here. I'm okay with that. I don't mind not doing all the tons of work involved in hosting a holiday. I'm glad you like the machine. I love, love, love mine. There is no way on this earth I would make all the salsa and other tomato products that I do if I didn't have it. When I made tomato sauce this week, I used it for that, taking great care to use the apple/sauce screen because I didn't want the sauce chunky like salsa, and I'm so used to using the salsa screen that my hand automatically brings it out of the cabinet and hooks it up....and then I stare at it and think "that's wrong, I'm making sauce". lol. I'm glad your latest gadget arrived. (grin) I purged so many gadgety things last year when we redid the kitchen and I do not want for them to come back. Every single thing I kept has one specific place it belongs, and nobody puts it in the wrong place or they face the wrath of She Who Must Be Obeyed. : ) Once you're used to putting things where they belong, they are always there when you need them. The hard part was training Tim and Chris to put things back in the right place, but once they understood the organizational system, they became better at using it and now they like it. I also love not having a drawer (or a cabinet) full of gadgets that I do not remember buying, do not remember using, and often....don't even know what they are supposed to do. I especially adore having one cabinet and one drawer for nothing but canning supplies. This is the first time I've ever had that and it is nice to not have to go from cabinet to cabinet pulling out canning supplies that were tucked away in all spots wherever I could cram them in. Both screens remove the peel. You just get bigger chunks with the salsa screen (which is important for safety reasons as it keeps the ingredients in the right density needed for proper heat penetration) and you get seeds with the salsa screen. With the sauce screen, the seeds are screened out along with the peel and a lot of the flesh. I run the 'waste' through several times when using the sauce screen in order to minimize waste. If I want a chunkier tomato sauce for fresh cooking for dinner I just use the salsa screen. Since I don't like seeds in spaghetti sauce, what I'll do is cut open the tomatoes and scoop out as much of the seeds/gel as I can into a bowl of waste destined for the compost pile. That will remove most but not all seeds. It also means you generally end up wearing some of those seeds. The kitchen and I are a wreck after an afternoon of tomato processing. I do the same scooping out of seeds/gel when making salsa. Some seeds remain, but I get most of them out, and this produces a slightly less runny salsa. I'm glad you got rain. We had a nice rain shower tantalizingly close to us....it missed us by about a quarter-mile. There are big puddles where and it looks like at last a half-inch fell, until you turn onto our road and there's just nothing. When I looked at the radar-indicated rainfall map, you'd think the blue blob was right on top of us, but it isn't/wasn't. There's the blue blob where the rain fell in our neighborhood on the map, then a tiny white area about the width of a human hair where no rain fell and then the river. We are in the tiny white area...literally our house, a handful of maybe 3 or 4 of our nearest neighbors, and no one else. Maybe 100-200 acres missed the rain. We are within that tiny 100-200 acres that was passed over. Everyone else got rain. If we hadn't had 3" of rain in the last week, being missed today would have left me wanting to cry.....but, we know that big girls don't cry and also there's no crying in gardening. So, I laughed at the way the rain fell on everyone but us. Laughing is better than crying. Tim says we are cursed. Some other areas that got rain (not our neighborhood or the area next to it where rain fell) also got fires probably caused by lightning but we didn't, so at least there's that. Something in the air has made me sneeze all day. Maybe some sort of grass pollen. I'm allergic to everything. I need a nap so I can stay awake later tonight and sleep in tomorrow since Tim's alarm clock won't be going off, but if I take a nap now, I won't be able to fall sleep later. I fed the deer squash last night. I should feed them more right now. Every squash I slice up and feed them is one less I have to cook or freeze. Hmmm. I believe I'll get off the computer, slice up some squash and throw it on the compost pile for the deer. Dawn

Hey Boxofrox you must get alot of rain in your climate.
We get tons of Spring rains, but drought usually hits from sometime in June through August.
I just got done watering today as things have been on the dry side.

Anyhow in spite of your rains your roses look great!
Rose leaves and blooms look cool with water droplets on them!

Hot Cocoa, Hot Cocoa, my Second Favorite Boxo Rose, soooo gorgeous Boxo! And it is heavenly against the purple clematis. I am ready to camp out!!!! Hot Cocoa makes me feel so warm and comforted. I feel like a melted marshmallow whenever I see it!

Ginger Syllabub is sheer eye candy. It's great to see the Great Matchup between Livin' Easy and Easy Going. Tweedle-Dee-Dee whooplaaaaa!

beth, she's just going gangbusters. I thought I'd let her bloom like crazy this year and focus on shaping her climb thereafter.

msj2, I think we narrowed the blue one down to Kiri Te Kenawa. If you go to the clem list on T&L and click on her pic, I'm thinking that's it.

jim, we normally get rain but not this much and not at this time. We had to wait till June 15th for a 70 degree day. Even in Sunriver, Oregon where we just spent our family vacation, my niece was angry that she didn't bring her board because Mt Bachelor was still open. We rafted the Deschutes River and normal Class 3's were Class 4.

whooooo-hooo, whooo-hoo, on Abraham D'Arby!!!! Wooowza! Boxo, whenever I see your Abraham D'Arby it always is the Biggest and Best-AD always feels like a Powerload Surprise.

Think of it this way....My poor Dad is stuck home all by himself while my Mom gets to cavort in Italy with her fellow choir members, singing and performing in Italy, lol! Well, I do my usual Friday and Sunday evening visit with my Dad, and he has waiting in the refrigerator the most delicious slice of Wild Oats Market organic cake with almond flavored real whipping cream topping with a hint of mascarpone and with blackberry/blueberry filling in it and cake in between! We only have that cake once in a blue moon so that was a huge surprise last night. That's the way I feel whenever we get to see Abraham D'Arby, it always feels like the BIGGEST and the BEST SERVING of the MOST DELICIOUS CAKE! Laden with full whipping cream, fruited filling, and heavenly scent of almonds, whenever I look at A.D

And Hot Cocoa, my 2nd favorite in line, it's like having real Irish Coffee with whisky, a splash of Peppermint and lots of Cocoa laden. I could get drunk on that rose, hahaha!

And once again, Hansa is really bringing down the house, hahaha on how loooooong and what a non-stop bloomer your rugosa is! whoooooa!!!! I can't even get my first-time rugosa to even send up an itsy bitsy bud yet, sheesh! But at least it's fully recovered! I was seriously worried at first. During the transit to my house USPS must have laid out the package several times outside in the blasting heat I suspect. 2/3rds of the leaves were goners, and the stems completely brown but looks like even the rugosa is loving my super dilute Gardenville sea tea. The leaves looks so fresh and green, but I'm still waiting for that flower. I tried to get Krista's Rotes Meer but no luck! And of course Hansa was not available. So instead I ended up with Amelie Gravereux, if it has no fragrance I'll be super mad! Hansa and Rotes have great fragrance, but Jim let me know that there are some folks in England who say it only has light fragrance :( :( :( The ratings that I read said strong/intense in the U.S. so now I'm sweatin' it.

Ooooo Sunset Celebration is looking sooo beautiful too. Another one of my favorite roses.

Jim....LE & EG are 7' or so in these pics. They are in the back of the bed against the wall so I let them reach a little closer to heaven :-) I have to prune 'Hansa' aggressively after each flush to keep it to 3.5 to 4' She has a real heavy flush in mid to late spring and then off and on till frost.

KG, What earthly use is a rose without someone such as you to appreciate it ? I create many bouquets for many special people but none of them appreciate my garden quite like you and so my mission here is to please you, plain and simple. If in the process others enjoy and appreciate, so much the better. True story !!!!!

With that said, today I trimmed and I trimmed and I trimmed but in the process managed to get a few shots in. Here's to you kid................

Awwww, that is sooo SWEET OF YOU TO SAY, BOXO! And yes, everyone is so blessed to see your Garden, Absolutely Blessed! YOU ACE! And hehe, AD says I'm Heeere and I'm the First and the Best! You'd make a Japanese Gardener proud with the Stone Fish and the Kiri Te Kinawa! The Kiri is one of my favorite C's too. The delicacy of that gorgeous other pink clematis also really draws the eye! Wow, is it a new one? I love it! I can just imagine what a beautiful companion it makes to the Kiri. To have both the size contrast, the different color (purple with the pink) and even the petal arrangement contrasts is gonna be absolutely gorgeous together. The Stone Fish is making quite a purple Splash together. Rose campion they say makes such a great rose companion as well. I hear about it, but now that I see it in person, I'll know exactly what people are talking about when they say Campion. I love the new EG photo too! I am looking forward to the Wall of Easies transformed to Lineups upon lineups of Bouquets :D

Wow!!! You've got such beautiful roses. I've never seen Livin' Easy and Easy Going so beautiful as yours. They really like being in your yard with your care.

I think my favorite are your 2nd pic of Abe and all of your Ginger Syllabus roses. I love them!!! I thought GS meant Golden Showers, and I thought it looked to full and was the wrong color. Then everyone started writing about Ginger and then Ginger Syllabus. I don't know if I've heard of that one before. Probably have - but I was amazed at it. Loverly!!!
