I am technically in zone 8b, but we have something of a "subclimate" here because of the lake (covers a large portion of 5 counties) and most years tend to be a zone 9a...occasionally a 9b. I will give it a few more days to see if anyone in a higher zone signs up first though.

everyone is on the same page???? Sure wouldn't want anyone to have hurt feelngs and I have seen it happen! PLMK!

I really don't think I can dictate a "price range". I think everyone should use a little common sense and not go out and blow $40 or $50 bucks. We aren't talking about buying collectables from the Bradford Exchange or something like that. Just cutesy, inexpensive, dollar store, big lots, garage sale, etc...but that would fit in with what your buddy likes. Notepads, stationary, home made seed envelopes, pkts of seeds, a special bulb, a garden or shelf trinket, wind chimes, crafty items....those things don't have to be costly. I would advise everyone to try and include several things tho, not just one or two items so that everyone feels like they got a "full box" of "neat stuff". I wouldn't advise something like book ends or paperweights because of the postage, but that is up to the individual that is PAYING the postage, not me. The last time I did this, I am only aware of two people that were disappointed, and that was because they didn't get anything AT ALL. I think also that nearly everyone here understands that everyone else may have budget restrictions, but that everyone will do the best that they can with what they have. That is all you can really expect. If I go out and spend $100 on my partner by my choice...no I do not EXPECT to get $100 worth of stuff in return. Please guys...just use your heads. Before you send off your box, take a second look. Are you using a tiny box? Is your box relatively full? Does it look like something YOU would like to recieve from a trade? Or does it look "shameful" to the point you would never want to hear from the person you are sending it to again out of embarrassment? If all you can do is $10 plus postage, that is fine. There is plenty of stuff at the 99 cent stores and dollar general type stores to spend $10 and have a lot of stuff to send. A lot of people last time sent bulbs, rhyzomes, root balls, cuttings, seedlings and seeds along with the gifty things so that there would be more in the box. All that cost was a little time and energy. Everything you get for your buddy may not be "ladybugs" which they collect...but I'm sure that if you find just one thing with ladybugs and then throw in some other neat or useful things they WILL be happy. I tend to keep little things laying around the house that I use for "gifts" for traders who send something really special as a surprise. Just my little way of saying thank you. I have windchimes that cost from $1 - $2...but they are CUTE or PRETTY. I have little garden signs that hang on miniature shepherd's hooks that I picked up for $1. I will be including some of these things in my package that I'm sending (sorry if I ruined some of the surprise). By the time I put 5 or 6 of these things in the box, add the seeds, the seed envies, the notepads, or address book or whatever, it will look like a very nice box of goodies.

I think I've gotten a little carried away in my efforts to try and help. But to answer your question directly..no..I'm not setting a "spending limit" for this. If you want to work something out with your buddy and the two of you come to an agreement yourselves, that is fine. I personally do not want a limit to what I can do for my buddy :) although there is one...I won't say what it is.

I am sorry, but due to an unexpected expense (injury requiring physical therapy I just won't have the funds to do this. Ten to fifteen dollars for gifts, since there isn't much in my garden to share. Then about five or six for postage, since our postal annex charges a service fee for every box mailed. Then another five for delivery confirmation, that's $20-25 I could use for a $30 physical therapy co-pay.

I thought my finances were in better shape, and also thought I could get delivery confirmation for a buck or two but that is not the case.

Sorry- maybe I had better try something like this later when my bottom line looks better and my garden has bulbs and cuttings etc. in it which I can share. Have fun everybody!

This is a one time buddy swap. If you and your buddy hit it off and decide to keep going with other things later, that is entirely up to you.

Grovespirit: Sorry to hear about your injury and having to have physical therapy. I must say I have never heard of a "service fee" for mailing boxes thru the post office. Delivery confirmation is just a few cents tho. Last time I used DC it was 35 cents or 55 cents..something like that.

Everyone:
Basically, in my head, I was figuring somewhere around a $10 expense (approximate) for gifts, then seeds and cuttings etc...and postage somewhere in the neighborhood of a $5 average for a couple of pounds in the box plus the few cents for delivery confirmation. Some people do go over these figures and spend more/send more/pay more postage and that is their choice, so that is why I said earlier that I can't set a limit. But if an average of cost of $15 or so is too much for anyone, PLEASE let me know so I can shuffle everyone around again.

I received a package from INbirdlady today. Inside were many purple and black flower seeds, my favorite. Also my favorite....A LARGE white chocolate crisp bar! There is a blank recipe book that I can write and keep my own recipes in. Shirley also shared with me a Potato Soup recipe based on how her Grandmother made hers and a 'basic' recipe that you can change around and Shirley says it is fun to play with. I'm sure that I will enjoy the seeds and the recipes. Thank you so much Shirley! I hope that you are feeling better.

I have been planning to start an all pink garden in honor of my new grand daughter so I am delighted with the selection. The little frog pot hugger is just too cute as is the hat pin. Received package from Angel14437. There are so many great things in it! I have paper to write all kinds of notes, some sugarplum that looks perfect in a bowl in my bedroom, LOTS of seeds that I am going to have fun with. I think I have included everything, I feel better but the old brain still isn't quite up to par.

I mailed my package this morning. Jeannette I got your wonderful package and just got it opened yesterday. I got a note holder, a windsock, windchime, gardening gloves and some seeds. What nice package. I have to apologize because I am in several of these swaps and I for some reason thought this had to be mailed by April 15th and am online today and see this is for ANOTHER swap.... so buddy your package is now in the mail and you should get it soon. The bulbs are gladiolous and the color is pink and cream.. cream being the predominant color with pink edges... variety name princess. I plant mine in full sun. Will look on bag of new variety I got and see what is the recommended planting. The Christmas Cactus are apricot and tangerine. I don't know which is which but that is the only kind I grow except one which is white with a red throat. A color other than red was on your want list on here. I had them in water trying to root for you when I got your name and they still hadn't rooted by the time I sent but if you plant in good rooting pot soil they should be fine.

I received a great box of goodies from Cathys1951!!!! She sent the following seeds: nepeta (catmint), lithops, chocolate Joe Pye weed, unknown sedum, calendula, sumac, yellow tansy, lanceleaf coreopsis, nicotiana, ladybells, cinnamon fern, globe amaranth, liatris, sneezeweed, yellow rose, & Phillipine lily. As if that wasn't enough she also sent this cute little pot scrubber set that the bottom looks like a pot & the top one looks like a flower. She also sent a little kit with pumpkin seeds, soil, etc. for kids (which my daughter has claimed), a weave basket planter, 2 pretty flower pot stakes with birds on them, a bag of 25 plant labels, & what I needed most, a waterhose attachment (I'm not kidding either. The one this one immediately replaced was duct taped because the trigger was broken). Thank you so much!!!
