Growth stages of Sansevieria cylindrica
Comments (18)My friend grows the two species that I mentioned with water on bottom, constantly year round. I don't know of others can live that way, don't try it unless you have a duplicate plant. I don't want to be responsible if anything happens to the poor plant. Now I want you to know I learn tricks almost ever day with Sans. I have what I think a large collection, many which the Huntiington Gardens don'w have yet, and they still have many I don't have yet. I divide my plant in June, they are doing a large collection now. It will take them a month. 100 flats 6 plants to a flat. They grow them fresh from a new rhizome, and also take cuttings for future sales, I have a special fertilizer which I won't mention here because you all may not be able to obtain it. It causes them to flower. Natural variegation: I don't use any thing to make them do this, If I know how or why, will share it with all of you....See MoreWhitish spots all over my sansevieria cylindrica
Comments (2)Hello, could you take a closer or sharper picture of one of those spots ? To me it looks like a hatched egg, maybe something layed eggs on your plant and it hatched long ago. If it looks "empty" and very dry you can confirm that. It could also be mealy bugs, but you can "test" it : - upon closer inspection mealy bugs have little legs all around and two antennas (looking like two tiny threads), - they look as if flour is covering them, - if you crush a few of them with your finger, it will leave a reddish smear on your finger. I have no other idea for the moment, please try taking another picture to help clarifying. Savantfou....See Moresansevieria cylindrica form
Comments (17)Stuart, I am not exactly sure what you are saying, given the photos that are offered. I have never seen any pups grow to be so dramatically different from the parent plant. I have several cylindricas, and about 5 Boncels are various sizes, and have propagated both from pups growing from the parent plant AND from leaves that accidentally broke off. (Couldn't throw them out -- had to save them.) Is a leaf that was broken off the parent plant or removed what you mean by a "cutting?" I have never seen a leaf cutting generate pups so different from the parent. But....learn something every day, I guess, right?...See MoreSansevieria cylindrica var. patula 'Boncel': Is this normal?
Comments (3)Thank you EB88 and Stush2049 Pitts. (English is not my native language, sorry) From the end of the summer this plant was sitting at home, so it really couldn't be frost damage. Moreover, it's not hot here and and there is no direct sunlight as it is winter time here in Lithuania. The only guess from other succulent and cacti forum was overwatering which proceeded into rot. (but I almost don't water it at all.. so that's weird, maybe the air was too humid) As I had to leave my home for a few days there wasn't too much I was able to do in a hurry. I plucked the bottom leave (the stem looked just fine, no rot) and I placed the plant near warm radiator (if it was overwatering). I'll see how another leave with the brown end is holding up in the few upcoming days when I'll be back home....See MoreStush2049 Pitts. PA, zone 6
