NEW: oh wow, where did you get that? garden round robin

I am starting a garden swap called "OH WOW, Where did you get that!"

What are we swaping? It is a basic Seed Round Robin (Each person takes out some seeds and puts in an equal or more amount of seeds) with a twist.

The twist? I will start the round robin with a bunch of packs of seeds AND a few pieces of garden art /decor (suitable for outside please).

The next person to receive the swap may choose ONE piece of art, and they ASLO put in ONE item of garden art/decor item for the next person. And so on.

If you do not want any or the art in the box please leave it in the box, but still put in your one item.

THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE AT LEAST 3 items of art/decor minimum in the box. That way every one has a selection to choose from.

When you send the box to the next person please post back on the board how many seeds you removed, & added and how many piece of art are in the box. And of course the confirmation number.

Some items to think about putting in the box. Pot sitters, Windchimes, Hanging whirly things, Decorative pots (lightweight of course), Resin garden plaques, Small garden statues, Humming bird feeders, Small Bird houses, etc. The best type of thing to put in the box. Something you would be proud to display in your own garden.

This sounds like the postage could run really high. The last one I did with flower bulbs in it was almost $20.00 in Postage. You might want to pack and weigh a trial box just to see. Just my thoughts for whatever they are worth. BB

I FORGOT TO MENTION.
THIS WILL BE SENT FEDEX "GROUND".
Their shipping is the cheapest for packages over 2 lbs.
I ESTIMATE,COST TO SHIP WILL AVERAGE around $7-9

I want to thank you all for participating in my Round Robin. I hope you all had fun. Maybe we can do it again sometime. I know I have enjoyed reading what everyone was receiving. Treasa, Fedex ground probably would have been cheaper than US mail. Diene, Yes fedex "ground" takes about the same amount of time as Parcel post...but most times costs less if shipped from a fedex station (not a mail boxes etc type location) and the tracking on fedex is much better and the insurance does not cost anything. Where USPS mail charges for both tracking and insurance. FederalExpress (not ground) is really fast but costs much more. I love the new USPS flat rate boxes. A specially marked flat rate box is only 7.50 priority. Cant beat those prices.

Thanks MKRuby, I look forward to the 6th to see who I'll be trading with, I have already started on my May box in an effort to be on time this month. I hope you can use some of the plants I sent to you. Your in a climate similar to mine and everything I sent does well here. I am excited to see my first trade box too. I will post when it arrives and let everyone know about the goodies I get. Thank you for doing this monthly trade, I know it is a huge undertaking and your very appreciated for doing it.

Hi Deb, we are glad to have you. I am trying to stay with garden decorating. But I do like the tool and plantmakers. We will work them in. I think we are going to add seeds, cuttings, bulbs, seedlings and plants on every month. I will put this up for a vote. The vote is to add every month or leave it optionable for the sender to add. Also I like to add to RULE #6. That deadline is for April mailing. We will take new members every month. And the sign up deadline will be the 5th on each giving month. Ok, we now have 6 members. Hi Everyone First I truly apologize for dropping the ball. I should have been a better host or reached out to see if there was someone else who could host while I couldn't. As things kept happening in my life, I kept thinking, it's just this one thing or once we get over this crisis, I'll have time to get back to everything again. And it just hasn't stopped. Not as an excuse but only for explanation, the last few weeks have been a turmoil with my grandmother in & out of a coma, my parents possibly getting a divorce, and my own job up in the air. It's still not over, but things have calmed down enough to come back to this. In the last couple weeks, I did try to contact Peggy (pdsavage) a few times with no response. I also know that Sherri tried to contact her to confirm receipt of the box, again with no response. At this point, I'm assuming that the box & Peggy are long gone, which is sad & disappointing since this was supposed to be a friendly swap. For my part, I'm sure that many of you are also disappointed with me & my lack of attention to this RR. Please believe me that it was not because I didn't care & I really feel so sorry that it's ended up this way. Anyway, for now, I think I cannot continue to host this. I know a lot of you lost many valuable seeds & cuttings as well as time & money & trust. Again I'm so sorry for that, & will contact you individually about it. Yes only US mail does have a flat rate box...BUT some of the items may not fit on a small flat rate box... so that is not an option.

And since some of the items may weigh a bit. FEDEX stays the cheapest option and is insured
3 lbs - fedex $7.26 Parcel Post (with del confirm) $6.87
5 lbs - fedex 8.01 Parcel Post (with del confirm) $9.98
9 lbs - fedex 9.53 Parcel Post (with del confirm) $17.59
So we will use fedex that way we can all get some great stuff without a weight restiction.

count me in My 92 yr old father loves to watch for ups or fedx to bring me packages for he gets to open them with me:)) he loves to see the mailman come to the house for he knows its more seed's of sorts or plants.

Are there actual Fedex stores? I have only used the post office before...but if it saves money, then im up for anything!

Just e-mailed you my info, but now that you mention it, I might be out on sending via FedEx, also. I'll have to check and see if we have an office (or something) here. If not, oh well!!! I might have to pay a little extra, but that's okay...this sounds like too much fun to miss!!

As to where to drop it off. Many UPS stores also take Fedex. They used to be called mail boxes etc. There shouls be some type of "shipping" store in most larger towns. that will ship fedex, airborn, etc.

if there is a kinko's near you, they are an affiliate of fed ex, so you can drop packages off there. also, you can sign up online (www.fedex.com) similar to how the post office works. of course, where ever there are large office complexes, there will be fed ex drop boxes. i've even seen them outside of larger malls, train stations, and some supermarkets, etc. then again, i don't live in a rural area so they are more prevalent here. sometimes you don't notice things unless you are looking for them. i have, in the past, called them and they came out and picked up what i had and dropped off supplies for future times.

just a few suggestions/ideas.

Do not put the package in a fedex drop box unless you are sure it is a fedex GROUND box. Otherwise it will not be delvered at all. Fedex GROUND is completely separate "company" from fedex express. They even have different trucks delivering the packages. and you cannot use fedex express boxes to ship fedex ground.

Sometimes this CRANKY, old computer of mine (born 1999) doesn't send out my messages...instead, they just sit in my outbox and I often don't think to check and make sure they went out. Hopefully, you'll receive it this time.

Would you please acknowledge either way whether or not you received my message, and if necessary, I'll send you a postcard with the info via snail mail.

I'm sending you an email. I'd like to join, but it depends on if I have the option of sending through the P.O. if necessary. I drive a 15 passenger van and running around to save money on shipping fees can wind up costing more in gas and time than I save.

Everyone that is confirmed in this RR will be receiveing an email from me shortly. I must here a reply from you on that email before it will fly. If I do not get a reply to that email you will be removed from the list. The box is scheduled to fly Tuesday.
