What causes the leaves to curl up, dry out, and fall off?
Comments (8)I have two kinds of fig trees I planted this year. I put some by mistake in full sun and some in partial shade. the one in partial shade are growing and look very good. The one in full sun has its leaved curl up and look sad during the day sun and heat. I figured out that the trees were shipped to me bare foot. Bare foot trees has its roots shocked up and need recovery. I water the ones in full sun daily. When the sun goes away the leaved come back normal. I figured that the leave curling is a self-defense for imbalance between the root not supplying enough water and the leaves in 100 degree heat losing too much water. When the root system establishes itself this problem will disappear. I have one tree shipped to me in container and it is full sun and has no problem at all because its roots are intact. Now I learned my lesson not to buy trees from any nursery selling bare foot trees.Pay a little more for the shipping and give your tree one year advantage. Believe or not my eggplants had the same problem and I kept watering it twice a day and the problem disappeared. I have abundant eggplant crop I just donated 40 eggplants to the soup kitchen. My water bill doubled but it still $120 for the quarter. The summer in our area was very hot and dry....See MoreDisease causing lily buds to curl?
Comments (1)Hi Roxanne, I believe what you have is called "bud blasting". If you google the phrase you can find articles on it, mostly geared toward the cut flower industry. I had the same thing happen to my LO hybrid "elegant Lady" last year (they had been spring planted that year). Each plant had about 7 buds each (I was very happy since it was their first season). Then most of them sort of shriveled up while opening on the sides (just like your photo). I ended up with about 2-3 blooms per plant. This year they were fine and bloomed beautifully. The good news is that from what I could tell skimming the articles bud blasting is related to external conditions (light and moisture) and variety of lily not a pathogen. -Helen...See MoreLeaf Curl Cause?
Comments (13)I have about 10 varieties of peppers. only one variety, MANZANO, has curled and very dark green leaves. The curled leaves are the young ones. ALSO, the rabbits like to munch on MANZANO pepper leaves. A baby rabbit, on occasions, ate couple of small/short ones. It has not touched any other kinds. So far I have learned 5 things about MANZANOes; 1- It has black, 2- Leaves are: fuzzy, 3- darker green, 4- and they curl 5- and rabbits like them. haha SO MAYBE CURLING IS NOT A PROBLEM ?...See MoreWhat causes curling (cupping) of leaves?
Comments (15)Vlad, my thornless key lime has some leaves like those. I think they were caused (actually I am almost certain in my case) by aphids attacking the new growth. The tiny leaves cupped like that from the aphid attack and then just grew up that way. There are no more aphids on my tree, but the leaves remain that way. I will take pics if I remember tomorrow....See MoreJohn__ShowMe__USA
