I love seeing pictures of other people's gardens for inspiration. I have a few from this year.

You have developed some very nice "gardens" at your home and your roses all look beautiful. I love the way the roses dress up your fence line. And it looks like you have some topography there which makes it interesting; it's so flat here - very green but flaaaattttttt.

Yes, it looks like you have room for additional roses in your front bed! Always nice to have extra space!

Thank you so much for posting that link. I love the first and last pictures on the cottage style. I am totally going to try the lavender Asters next to brilliant red sedum, although it looks pinkish redish. I am always on the web looking at pics and got three gardening books for Christmas that I prefer to look at rather than the snow.

Wow! I was away for a few days, and look at these great responses! But I haven't been idle; I went to the library, and got several books, including Baldwin's book. Love it, because she is apparently local to my area, so she shows gardens in neighborhood I know, including my own! One of my favorites is similar to the Sherman Gardens you cited, hoovb. (Course, I can't tear out pictures from a library book). I'll try to post a picture of my intended plot tonight; maybe you all can help with design.

What Spazzy said: early establishment in spring, leave the ugly stems all winter. I know from experience. I started with a single gallon pot. I have numerous clumps of the tall dark purple throughout the garden. There is one clump of the white with purple in its second year here. Oh, and 3 little pots blooming in the GH that I forget why I rooted them. Mexican bush sage has been blooming here since mid-September and is still looking good. It's the footer pic on my blog. pelicanhead, I love seeing pictures of other people's gardens, too! Thanks for posting "full garden view" photos and giving us a glimpse into your garden paradise.

I really like that you have designed so distinctive garden rooms! Everything looks great. Your front yard is especially appealing to me. I like the clipped green shrubs as a backdrop for the roses quite a bit. What kind of shrubs are they?

Thanks so much. My roses have been so much fun and rewarding this year. The bushes in the front are junipers. My husband manicures them.
