Comments (3)I ran across the site below when trying to identify some seeds that I had received in a trade. It says it is from tropical Africa, but it doesn't set seed even in Florida, so the author is assuming that Florida doesn't have the right pollinator. I would think that it could be hand-pollinated... maybe... But the author says "it occasionally pops up for sale at large retail garden centers so keep your eye peeled for it!" It is listed at Plants of Perfection: http://www.plantsofperfection.com/Cristinas_Collection.html And Glasshouse Works: http://glasshouseworks.com/trop-t.html Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Growing Thunbergia battiscombei...See Morefreesia & gardenia from seed? Comments (2)freesia will grow from seed and multiply from bulbs also. When my freesia go to seed I collect them and scatter them around other parts of the garden and just let them come up by themselves....See MoreGardenia thunbergia
Comments (6)That's one plant I want to find!. The scent of Gardenia thunbergias is nice but different to the scent of G. jasminoides. G. thunbergia's is a very heady white floral scent whith a soapy (aldehydic)characteristic quite similar to the scent of moonflowers or thunbergias. It's very fragrant at night. Gardenia jasminoides scent is very sweet and heady and > fruity with nice cardamom/vanilla hints. My Tiare shrub is blooming for the first time now and although the fragrance is nice I'm a bit dissapointed. this plant gained a lot of popularity due to Monoi de Tahiti oil (which smells synthetic BTW) and in many boutique perfumes like (Comptoir Sud Pacifique "Aloha Tiare")which is a heady white floral composition with sweet vanilla and coconut hints. I thought the scent of true Tiare would be something that wonderful. But it smells very similar to Gardenia thunbergia, only a tiny bit sweet and much lighter :0(. Never like the wonderful scent of Gardenia jasminoides....See MoreMarcR
