It's called over wintering, and it's not just for container peppers.

Pick all the pods, ripe or not. Dig up and trim both the roots and branches. If you look at some of the over wintering threads you'll see how aggressive you can get and still not kill these bad boys.

Congrats on a productive season, I'm in the NW burbs and still shuffling my plants in and out of the garage trying to extend the season another couple days.

Have you had freezing temps yet?

We have gotten predicted freezing once or twice, and about a month ago I went out and some plants were dead or frost damaged - although the weather never reported a frost, even in retrospect.

Nothing since then - although it has been predicted. A low of 32 was called for last night, but everything looks fine today - even the eggplants.

Sure wish I though of this yesterday, lol! I will do one plant per day before work......it'll be dark now when I come home.

We've had frost (on the car windows) a couple times, but the peppers have been in the garage for overnight since early October.

I'm just about done, need to get my car in the garage before snow rolls in. I'm debating about overwintering this year, I had limited success last year.

Of three plants (all Bhut) only one really survived and produced again this year. One of the remaining two out right died in early spring and the other is still alive, but weirdly stunted and fruitless all summer long.

If I save anything it will be my lone 7 Pot Douglah.

I laugh at myself, one per day. I did 3 today and am now late for work and need a shower - I am dirty!

Did a sweet one - marconi red and a hungarian hot wax and a thai pepper....

My older plants - four of them three years old - are doing well. They aren't as vigorous as children are, but they don't need to be. They produce regularly and seem content with their lot in life. I have never pruned below, but probably will this year.
