Thank you so much for your time and effort. The pictures are lovely, and helpful. The rose color seems a bit pinker than represented in the David Austin catalog. Does your rose remain as pink? I will plan on this rose next year. Thanks again!

Thank you Florence, also lovely pictures. You are right about the different looks. I have seen some pictures of Grace that are very orangey, and with a completely different shape. Does the color fade fast?

My Crocus Rose isn't blooming yet, but here is a photo of the shrub from this morning. It is a second-year rose that has been very healthy and hardy. It's about three feet by three feet. As you can see, it has a nice, full, rounded shape.

I live in a cold zone 5/4 and my Charlotte is 5x5 feet and growing..It is an awesome rose..Deep buttery yellow and has blooms most of the summer...This is one of the few roses that does not get much winter die back .It is about 4 years old

Yay! Finally, I'm not the only one asking about Grace. It's one of my favorites. There's a picture of it on the homepage for my roofdeck photos. You'll also find other pics of various incarnations of its flower forms under 2004 and 2005. Charlotte was okay, but Grace was much, much better for me.

Welltraveled, thanks also for your input. I live in mid-Michigan too. Does the color fade a lot on Charlotte? I have the The Pilgrim, and color fades in a matter of hours on that one. I was thinking of planting Charlotte next to my climbing Pilgrim.

angela - yeah, i have no idea what's with my roses and the image on david austin's website. my photos are a very accurate representation of what i see in person though. my blooms are somewhat pinkish on the outer petals, but transition towards that deep peachy orange color inside. the photo on the austin website seems to have a subdued orange cast to the entire image that makes me wonder ever since i ordered that rose. so i'm not surprised that mine came out looking different.

i don't know if it's just blooming differently this year, but mine have really only come close in color to the DA image when the floor has almost completely aged and lost most of it's color. it then becomes this dusty pink-peach color uniformly.

i'll see if i can dig up some of the photos of the more aged blooms. i was planning on making a post of different austins as their blooms age anyway - to show the color and bloom shape changes.

Hello, Carding Mill looks beautifully, I would like to have it in my garden, but it is unavailable in Europe. Maybe I could arrange with somebody exchange for any rose, which is available only in Europe. If you are interested in, write me on my e-mail.

May I just add my 2cents worth on Grace. First season for me. She is pretty, very delicate petals, seem to fade quickly for me. But my biggest disappointment is "no fragrance" at all to my nose. I would not have purchased it if I had known. I am sure that I thought it was fragrant. Maybe other people do not agree re fragrance. I am sure interested to hear though.

I can only comment on Charlotte - while she might not be the most fragrant Austin, she does have fragrance, and what she lacks in fragrance, she makes up with blooms. I've had mine about 4 years now, and the more I see the more I love this rose. It's never without a bloom, I love how the colour fades to a pale cream. it does get some PM later in the season, but then I don't spray. My Charlotte is about 5x3

I can tell you this much that I purchased 'Charlotte' bare root for my Mom for Mother's Day of 2006. Her garden is totally no spray (in South Eastern Washington state) as she just does not believe in putting that much effort into your garden.

She told me last week that she has brought cut roses in from that bush several times already. This is a strong testimony for any rose as it must thrive or be shovel pruned in Mom's yard.

She says it is lovely. I'm going up to see the folks this weekend and if it is blooming I'll take some pictures.

Hi angela88! I have had Carding Mill for two years now. Its beautiful, but not quite as vigorous as I had hoped. I think it would probably do better in a higher zone. Just thought you'd like to know, as you are also in a zone 5.
