San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

I took a tour of a local rose garden here just before the heat wave, it was nice to see plants in full flush!

Julia Child, what a perfect rose! Full of cheerful golden blooms, great green healthy leaves, and a wonderful fragrance to top it off.

Her blooms even age nicely with soft rouge edges, nothing burnt or brown looking like many others I saw.

Royal Amethyst

Wild Blue Yonder was such an impressive display, that I didn't even recognize it as the same newly planted rose in my garden. Looking forward to mine getting mature!

Holy Freakin' Cow!!!! Gaaaaahhhhhh!!! Drooooooool!!!

Here in zone 3 - nothing grows like that!!! I'm just stunned!!! I'm going to go have another look - bye! :)

The Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden spends a great deal of time cultivating the youth, and showing their contribution to helping the garden goes well beyond a one day activity. These blooms look smaller and lighter pink and seem to have a lower petal count than my Orchid Romance. Was there a scent? My OR has a relatively strong scent.

Still Blooming at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

When I lived in San Jose 26 years ago I was within walking distance of that garden. I use to take my son in the stroller over there almost every day and spend the morning. That garden is what inspired me to really get into roses. I use to have 50 bushes, but have cut back to just 30 now. When I am in the area I always visit the garden.

I love going to the rose gardens where I can see so many gorgeous roses together in full bloom. Thanks for the lovely pictures.

Too bad nothing much was in bloom for your visit. :)

Seriously, what a treat to see that. Thank you. They have some winners there don't they? Everything looks well tended, too. When I go to the Huntington or Descanso and see how poorly things are maintained, I just have to sigh.

I know, I am impressed with how they are tended, not all perfect but the volunteers come and regularly cut off old blooms and prune and the watering is what I noticed really helps compared to some other gardens I have seen.
I did see Dr. Huey making his presence known where he shouldn't be in a few areas. ;-)I am glad I went when I did, the heat wave hit the next day and many blooms looked fried when I went by again a few days later.

The rose beds look magnificent. I have been there and seen several wedding parties shooting photos. There is a large fountain as well as a surrounding fence covered with climbers. It is a lovely place to spend a few hours.
