What to do with Fatalli /Devil's Toung/Red Habs

hello all. does anyone know of a yellow sweet hot sauce and perhaps a sweet red hot sauce as well. i seem to be stuck and have run out of ideas. sweet hot can really be a challenge. would appreciate all suggestions.

P.S. not sure if this is the right forum for this but i figure who better. thanks

Check out the Condiments, Hot Sauces and Sauces sections. There seems to be quite a selection.

HereÂs a simple one (not from the site referenced) I use often. It starts off sweet and then the heat kicks in. It needs refrigeration or freezing for storage (ie. not bottled and kept on the shelf).

Bill

Caribbean BBQ Sauce

1 or 2 Habanero, fresh or dried
1 cup orange juice
1 cup honey
1/3 cup soy or Worcestershire sauce
1 TBS ginger (1/8 - 1/4 tsp powder)
1/2 tsp allspice
2 cloves garlic (1/4 - 1/2 tsp powder)
1 tsp dried thyme (1 TBS fresh)

Blend together well in food processor or blender and then simmer in sauce pan for 5-10 minutes.

Heres my lineup: 7 pot Scotch Bonnet Yellow and Red Fatalli Bhut Jolika Austrian Lanterns Thai red and yellows Poblano I have grown 100s of varities over the last 15 years and these get me everything I need. I tried the scorpions last year, they look cool and are very hot but didn't make good sauce and the Bhut dry better and just as hot for my powder. Am trying the 7 pot/pod for the first time, we'll see if they make back to next years lineup. Bhut Jolikas best for powder. Fatalli makes such a so much better mash for pepper sauces I don't even fool with mashing anything else, except for a few scotch bonnets. Got have a few jars bonnet sauce. Austrlain lanterns made in back in this years lineup, what a great pepper to eat fresh, awsome smell and taste and HOT. Got have my thais. Love taking the to the local Thai place getting the cook in my food, plus i make this soy/honey/garlic sauce with them. Pablanos obiviously for my rellanos. Thats all I need to keep me happy:)

Grew 11 devils tongue plants last year. Ordered 10 seeds, received 11, and was very lucky and all 11 germinated. Very similar to fatali, but more aromatic & HOTTER. I was very pleased with this pepper. I kept seed from my peppers, and this year had problems with germination, not just from devils tongue, but all of the seeds I planted. I have to attribute it to the use of a starting mix with a higher % of PEAT, as that was the only variable this year as opposed to the last 4 years I have done this. The last 3 years I averaged 90% germination on all my peppers with exeption of the Chiltepins which was still about 75%. This year I averaged only 60% germination. Hope this helps.

Watching Youtube videos, I'd say 7-pot (various strains), primo, Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, and Carolina Reaper all seem to have a fruity or fruity/floral flavor. The lone exception is that some of the chocolate super hots have a bit of a smoky flavor added to the fruity or floral. (For example the Douglah (aka "7 Pot Douglah", "Chocolate 7 Pot", "Chocolate Douglah") has a bit of a smoky undercurrent going on. The Jamaican Chocolate Habanero doesn't have a smoky flavor, but rather taste like a milder version of the orange habanero, but heat wise it's like the Red Savanna. Takes time for the heat to build from the videos I've watched.

i've seen this site, lots of recipes. your bbq sauce does however look interesting. good spice combo. silly question, but why heat. i made the mistake of adding a touch of classic yellow mustard to my sweet yellow sauce. a big No. tried correcting, still missing something. added heat. it taste different everytime. not sure what to expect with the use of heat. how long before it stabilizes.

awesome! youre da best! but, im actually making the big cross country move this coming tuesday, so im not sure i would make it there before the peppers, let me get back to you about that next week if thats ok.

My Devil's Tongue Red/Mango hot sauce was one of my better mixes this year.Very prolific plant!Still rolling,I suggest you do a search for Mango Hot Sauce,and add xtra podsx3.It's a great chicken thigh marinade for grilling!

The sauce is heated to ensure the honey mixes well with everything else.
