Actually, it sounds like you are right where I am, Kristie - - 'cept I'm about 1,000 miles to the north and at a lower elevation.

After suffering from temps around 90 for 3 days, I set out tomatoes and peppers yesterday. Today, the heavens open and it rains, rains, rains . . . I'm loving it!!

'Course, I still have some things to go out but got the zinnias out this AM during sprinkles. I'm goin' to try for a half flat of peppers this PM and that should be it . . . altho' I may be able to squeeze in more tomatoes. Oh, and the eggplant had a bit of delay while I snuffed the aphids on the poor dears, delaying hardening-off in the process.

Hi Kristie, I planted around 5/5 and my carrots and onions are are just starting to come up. How long ago did you plant?

I thought about putting in a second round of carrots close to June 1 anyways. :-)

Michelle I planted the carrots, peas, and cucumber seeds around the same weekend. I think it was May 4th. My peas are sprouting. Do the birds come in and take out the seeds? I may plant the carrots and cucumbers again this weekend.

Anyway the peppers and tomatoes look healthy. I wasn't sure if I was too early. But the weather has been fairly nice so far.

Kristie, my carrots took about 2 weeks to come up, and we had a lot of wind after I sowed them, so I was worried about the soil drying out to much too, but they came up just fine. My peas took about a month to germinate, and I haven't even sown the cucumbers yet. Last year, my cucumbers were up within a week, but they like warm soil, so maybe you planted them too early. If you've had the warm weather that we have the past few days, and they still haven't come up, you might want to resow.

Some of my tomatoes, the ones that germinated in early April, are almost big enough to set out, but I have some that have only been up about 10 days, and are way too tiny to fend for themselves. The peppers are growing soooo slow. Most have been up since the end of March, but they are only 2" - 3" tall still. I'm going to give them a couple more weeks before I plant them out. The basils are just now getting their first set of true leaves. I sowed them later this time, since last year I put them out too early and they were stunted from the cool nighttime temps.

I have to say, I'm getting tired of hauling containers of sprouts in and out everyday, so it will be a relief once everything is planted out.

Kristie, I thought David52 said something about carrots being sensitive to drying out, maybe yours did fail if they got dry. Seems like he covers his with a board until they germinate. I have mine on drip - I water them for a few minutes every day. They have a tiny bit of straw mulch protecting them - just a fine layer over the soil.

I may be brave and plop a couple of tomatoes in the ground.

I've been succession planting carrots, lettuce, and spinach for almost a month. The spinach and some of the lettuce are popping up, and a row of carrots is showing.

I put in snow peas about a month ago, and they're 2-3 inches high now.

It was so nice yesterday that I planted some melon and zucchini seeds. I put plastic cloches on them (made from recycled pop bottles) and then put bricks on the cloches to keep the wind from carrying them away.

I still have two potatoes left to plant. Of the 28 I planted, 15 are coming up.

I dropped the ball on the cole crops, though. I was going to put them in my next raised bed, but I haven't been able to get soil home from the store to fill it yet. I should have had them in the ground a month ago.

Next weekend I plant tomatoes and sunflowers and go get dirt for the brassica.

Well, if it helps any, I checked the 2 week forecast (for COS) on Monday before I planted a bunch of seeds, and it seems we're supposed to be in the 70s and 80s with lows in the 40s - 50s. I haven't been brave enough to plant tomatoes & peppers yet, but when I watch the weather at 10, it's quite often 5-10 degrees colder at my house (in Falcon) than COS. This is also my first year here, so I'm winging it a bit...

Digit, I drove to Missoula MT last week, and thought I might melt on Friday. It must have been at least 90, and I was in a car that the A/C wasn't working (delivery to the college kid). I could not wait to get out of that car! I was in Alaska the last 2 summers, so my heat tolerance isn't what it once was. I'm going to roast this summer...

My peppers and tomatoes are 20 miles away and it looks good in that direction but we are close to freezing right now 6:30 AM !!

Low tonight is supposed to be high 40's but the only way that's goin' happen is if there's more rain . . .

Those weekend 90's up here nearly 49th parallel were just a fluke. Every Spring . . . it's dodging the bullet. Back out there today to put some late-planted kohlrabi in the ground - probably should have stuck with that family and avoided this early morning anxiety.

I think we're going to freeze tonight and tomorrow night. With a little luck, it won't be enough to ruin the fruit.

It was 2006. I planted tomatoes Mother's Day weekend. They managed to survive even through the hail storms we had. But they still took a long time before I got my first tomato. I think by August for the Early Girls. I hope these two plants survive. Big Boy and Beefsteak are in the ground this year.
