All your roses are very beautiful. I like the colour of Sundance, such a wnderful orange colour, I am sure it is like sunshine in your garden. Ohio Belle is so tender and lovely. Sombreuil - I love it very much, one of the most beautiful roses ever. Reine des Violettes is gorgeous.

Beans: bush or pole squash: winter or summer (but it would have to be a fast winter squash) Pumpkins: like in orange Jack O Lanterns Cowpeas Cucumbers cantaloupe (early variety) If your summers are not too blistering hot I bet you could easily plant Swiss chard, carrots, beets, turnips, cabbage and mustard greens. Thanks, everyone. The tall bearded iris have bloomed exceptionally well this year. And that one Siberian iris and the rose sort of grew together and look look blooming with each other. Debra, yes snapdragons last all summer here until frost. Of course if there is no rain I have to water them. And the mosdern Sibgerians are quite fancy and the tets usually have much bigger flowers than the dips. Cindy, the one lupine is the only one to bloom there but there are actually four lupine plants in there. The rest all died. So I just bought a flat of snapdragons and stuck them in there fo0r this year to give some color. I did plant Fruit Punch poppies in there in back of those snaps so they will bloom there next year. I have some Fruit Punch in another area and they are blooming now. I am seeing more and more scapes each day so I guess it will be an early season.

jill, If you have any more peppers, or you want to use some of the ones sliced in your freezer, here's a recipe I made many times this fall (first time I ever had a significant bell pepper harvest!). It's from the original Moosewood cookbook, and we found it yummy and easy. 6 medium bell peppers, sliced in strips 1 1/2 cups thinly sliced onion 2 Tbsp butter 2 Tbsp olive oil 3 medium cloves crushed garlic 1 tsp EACH salt, cumin, coriander 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/4 tsp EACH black pepper & cayenne pepper 2 Tbsp flour 4 large eggs 1 1/2 cups sour cream or yogurt (or mixture) 1/2 lb medium-sharp cheddar, sliced or shredded paprika Saute onions and garlic with salt & spices in butter and olive oil. When onions are translucent, add peppers & saute over med-low heat about 10 minutes. Sprinkle in flour. Mix well & saute until there is no extra liquid. Butter a deep casserole dish. Spread in half the saute. Top with half the cheese. Repeat. Beat eggs & yogurt together and pour over top. Sprinkle with paprika. Cover and bake 40 - 45 minutes, till firm. (Uncover for last 10 minutes for a golden top.) I don't know if this would freeze well or not, but I can tell you leftovers keep nicely for several days in the fridge. Meanwhile, happy dehydrating! Z

Reine des Violettes, Sombreuil - I want to have them in my garden but I have no space unfortunately. So I enjoy watching their lovely pictures here.

Wow Aprille! I'm so jealous. I have tons of buds, but the weather has been so cold all week the roses are all just sitting there waiting til the sun and warm temps come back. Supposed to get back into the 80's by tomorrow, but I'm skeptical. Thanks for sharing your beauties. Makes my day!

BTW, I almost ordered that OHIO BELLE, but didn't know where I'd put it. After seeing your pic, I wish I would've anyway. I'm sure I could've found a place for it!! It's absolutely gorgeous!!

Oh WOW, They are all just gorgeous.I love that First Prize, and I have wanted Mary Rose for a long time.Haven't found it locally yet,except in one place and it looked too sickly. Sundance is beautiful and so is Renie des Violette. Mine has one small bloom on it,but I have been fighting to keep this one.Its looking better this year,so it might make it yet.

Thanks bgrose - Sundance always puts a smile on my face. Renie des Vilottes has not done much in my garden in the 3 years I've had it - till this year, it's covered in buds right now.

Thank you Leslie - I like the colour of this rose too.

Thanks Judy - I'm afraid my beds are not very attractive, meaning that I've got black pots lining the entire back yard and it's messy. I'll try and take some though when everything is blooming more.

Beth - thank you. Ohio Belle is a wonderful rose, very delicate looking but holds up to the heat and lasts a really long time as well. She's also a quite the work horse for me.

Thank you Jean. First Prize is a great rose, finally coming into it's own this year with new growth. I was not happy with my Mary Rose at first - and then it bloomed last spring and showed me what it could really do - that is one rose I could not live without now - and has a gorgeous fragrance to boot. I've had Renie for 3-4 years now - always only had a few blooms and was getting tired of it - last spring nothing bloomed, all the buds balled so I was excited to see it grow to about 5 feet tall with laterals(?) along all the canes all covered in buds and they are all starting to open up.

Eric I got Ohio Belle from Ashdown last spring (07) - you will love this rose, she's wonderful.
