Golden Zest and Lady Emma Hamilton. Help me decide where they go
Comments (1)They both have a powerful and wonderful fragrance. My Lady Emma is tiny so far. I think Golden Zest is the much larger of the two. I would put GZ in the larger of the two spots....See MoreGolden Zest info please.
Comments (10)Based on very limited experience, one rose and one winter, Golden Zest is reasonably hardy with winter protection here in MN zone 4a. It had less than average cane die back compared to other roses planted in 2007. I did not notice any particular disease problems. Spraying was sporadic this year and GZ did not spot or show PM. The blooms are nice, actually very nice, and smell great. However it did not bloom well. Repeat bloom was sparse. Here, the plant is short- less than the average HT. The plant is attractive and looks full with many thin canes growing from the base. It probably would be better in a warmer climate where it would not have to spend so much energy on regrowing the winter kill. It was on the questionable list, but I decided to keep for another year. However, if it doesn't make it through a tough winter, I will not replace it. I could use the room for another Julia Child or Prairie Harvest. Comments (10)The Macartney rose is hardy enough here in Tropical Minnesota, zone 4a. It suffers winter about the same as other HT's. It dies to the snow or mulch line, but has enough vigor to restore itself and then some. It is a nice rose here and the only complaint is that it could flower more. In good growing years it gets over five foot and is among the tallest HT's. It just smells so good too. Lemon Zest struggles here. It does not flower very well, the the few it produces are wonderful. It did not earn it's keep here so I gave it to a friend who has it in a sheltered spot with a Southern exposure. It is still struggling and may not get fully established. It would be happier in a warmer climate. Charles...See MoreMr. Lincoln and Golden Zest
