How long does it take for Jalapeno plants to grow?

I moved to a new home in July, it has a huge yard and one of the first things i wanted to do was put in a vegetable garden. Even though it had been over 100 degrees for 3 months straight with zero rain.... the gardening calendar said it was time to start a fall garden. Not having much time, I decided to start small with 2 raised beds.

The first weekend of Aug. I built a 3' x 12' raised bed and filled with a mix of soil (compost, garden and top-soil) from CasaDepot. I watered it and let it sit for overnight. the next day I planted 3 cherry tomatoes and 1 jalapeno plant (jumbo variety). A week later I built a 2nd raised garden (for: cukes, corn and watermelon), but I also put in 3 more jalapeno plants (2 TAM jalapeno and an Early Jalapeno) and another tomatoe plant in the original bed.

The gardens get full sun from 11:00am till sundown (7:45pm). Central TX has had record breaking 100+ degree days and maybe 80 degree nights. Due to the heat, I was watering moderately everyday (drip irrigation), and the tomatoe plants thrived. They went from 12" to 42" in one month. Meanwhile the jalapeno plants don't seem to be doing much. They have only put on a couple inches of growth and maybe a few leaves. When bought, all them were in 4 inch containers and about 6 inches tall.

This weekend we had a cold front blow in and our 8 day outlook is 90+ degree days 60+ degree nights. the cool nights this weekend has alredy jump started the tomatoes to produce lots of little green tomatoes!!! But I am wondering if i will see any peppers. It's only been a moth since planting, and the fall season has a ways to go... traditionally central texas doesn't see any frost till the start of december.

I may be a little impatient, but i would appeciate any feedback. Here are my 4 little peppers:

Grande Jalapeno planted first weekend of Aug. (the first and possibly worst looking of the bunch)

Early Jalapeno planted Aug 26th

Early Jalapeno planted Aug 26th

TAM Jalapeno planted Aug 26th

Even my Miniature Pinscher thinks the Jalapeno plants look small.

They look like they could use a lil ferts to jump start them. Maybe a lil garden lime and a splash of bone meal. Other than that for a month old they are right on track. On average I would say 90 days to set fruit another 30 to ripe but every pepper is different and cold weather will stunt growth .

from esox07's recent thread, "Growing Peppers in the heat-how does that work?"... I surmise that pepper plants don't like the 100+ degree days we've having (who does?). The more "normal" 90's we are seeing now should help stimulate some growth.
I did fertilize with some "Vigoro liquid plant food" (recommended use is every 3 months).
Since I bought transplants, I am hoping they were at least a month old when purchased, and that I could be seeing the "fruits of my labor" (pun intended) in another 30 to 35 days.
My biggest problem may be impatience. All the "pepper porn" on this forum has been driving me crazy, I must be coveting my neighbors pepper (gasp!).

The jumbo actually looked better 2 weeks ago.

Hi alieliza, Your plant and spike look very healthy, but six months is a very long time for an autumn spike to stay at that stage. Even with winter sun and cold nights (60-64 degrees) my "windowsill" phals begin to open in less than 4 months. This is a guess, so please consider it with a grain of salt. I think that I remember your post spiking phals earlier--they were either yours, or those of someone who clamps in the same way. The clamping is what made me notice them. When clamping a spike to a stake, I carefully avoid touching the leading several inches that carry the flower bud beginnings. In fact, I place the clip Below the top-most bract (that flat, green scale-like thing below the buds). My theory is that the spike tip might stall, or grow wrong,if it "thinks" it is pinned down or blocked. If you care to test the theory :) you could reclamp the spike Below (but not touching) the upper bract, and Very Gently remove the clamp that is presently holding the top of your spike. It might take the spike a week to figure things out, but releasing the tip might give it the jumpstart it needs. I hope it goes well. Sweetcicely

Hey Jane. That's a relative question of course contingent upon your climate and the rose itself. For example I bought a couple of bands I think in July namely Benjamin Britten and a Cl. Iceberg. They both have taken off like crazy, especially BB. My personal preference having started bands in spring, late summer and fall is to get them in the spring. Give them the whole season to do their stuff and normally (with Heirloom bands anyway) they take off very nicely. The only exceptions so far have been the Viking Queen and this years Betty Harkness. Viking Queen has just been existing all summer, maybe from insufficient sun. Betty Harkness was ordered during one of Heirlooms late summer sales and after just sitting in its pot for about a month finally has begun to put on a small amount of new growth. Oh yeah, I forgot to say... Many types of fruit trees are almost always propagated vegetatively (cuttings, grafted trees, etc). Most apples for instance are unlikely to produce good fruit when grown from seed. Are you only interested in seed grown trees or are you just trying to find out how long it will take for you to grow your own fruit?

I have a little baby lipstick too that I got on ebay about 4-5 weeks ago. It hasn't grown either, but looks healthy, after losing a few leaves and stems from the shock of shipping. I love them and their beauty, but they have always grown very slowly for me. It may be the same variety that you have, tlbean. I lost the tag. I had an A. radicans, the variegated variety, for years. So pretty! But eventually they start dying on me. I take cuttings, but they don't always root. I wish I could find the variegated radicans again. When they are healthy and full, they are among my favorite of plants.
